The head even has strata of shades of tan within it. Pretty much looks like perfect waffle batter. Nice big forward hop nose: piney notes atop earthy leafy business. Smells ravishing. Attack is very drinkable for a barleywine; body’s borderline medium-sized, carb is pleasant and soft, and flavors are well restrained. The mid-palate shows a nice blend of earth, leaf, tobacco, husk, caramel--all the good stuff you’d expect from a well-made new world barleywine that’s not sitting in its own sugar. But the finish shows some nasty aluminum...regrettable, that oxidation note creeping in. The numbers only show a total .2 subtracted for it, but it’s still quite a shame. sliffy (2012), Columbus, Ohio, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 3, 2007 22 oz bottle from a trade with john_adam. Pours a clear mahogany with a dense beige head. Malty aroma, cotton candy, toffee, lost of red fruit, and pine citrus. Very abundant nose, lets see if the rest can stand up to that. Carbonation is a little prickly but flavors come through as candied, red fruit, grapefruit, tar, pine. All the sweetness is balanced with a strong bitterness. Wow, i’m really impressed with this one. Excellent offering from green flash. jefcon (1004), Arlington, Virginia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 28, 2007 A pretty healthy head for a barleywine. Deep amber in color. Aromas are orange, light caramel, nutmeg and cimmamon. Flavors suffer from a bit too much up-front astringency, but the caramel is good and pure. Oaky, malty finish features some chocolate. Long finish. mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 21, 2007 Pours reddish brown with a medium light tan head. Smells of heavy malts and cinnamon but was somewhat vegetal as well which hurt it. Big, bitter sweet taste, heavy malt characters with touches of some cinnamon spice. Leaves a sweet aftertaste on the tongue. Decent brew. SoLan (1426), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 21, 2007 Hazy ruby/amber. 4.5cm of dense, tan head. Vegetal nose- like root, stem, and leaves pulled from the ground. Flavor of resinous hops and sweet caramel/toffee malt. Full body, balanced carbonation. Very good. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 20, 2007 Bottle courtesy of Naven: Poured a medium brown/burgundy color ale with a great foamy head with good retention and good lacing. Aroma of caramel malt and light dry fruit is offset by some west coast hops. Taste of sweet caramel malt and subtle dry figs is balance with some citrus hops. Body is about average with some great carbonation and no alcohol was noticeable. Well done and I have to confess that I did enjoy this even though I usually prefer my barleywine with more malt profile then hop profile.
