Lovely, opulent and cherry gold in color with a fuzzy, serrated sponge head. Deep nose drums up buttery amaretto caramels, papaya rolling in nectar and sweet cherry spruce. English toffee, bing cherries and sweetened pipe tobacco come in a distant second. Flavor lays in as light at first, but then lays a buttered amaretto graham crust flavor onto the tongue with a caramel cap. Pistachios give a nice, subconscious nutty sweetness and crystallized ginger cherries ignite a sweet substance at a tobacco toffee junction near the cusp of the throat. Honey coated ruby red grapefruit suckles in slowly. The bitterness sings with subtle sweetness as a gummy caramel amaretto track makes its mark. Balanced and bright and beginning to take on more body as it grows older. Dry, nearly numbing tongue remarks with cherry cotton and papaya bitterness in the final sequences. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 20, 2007 Bottle from OldGrowth shared at frumpty’s in Greenville after Ryan passed out with southampton abbot 12 in his hand. Some host. Haha. Pours a dark, but clear, amber with a thin white head. Nose is strong caramel malts with a strong and bitter hop presence. Flavor is very bitter as well to go along with the heavy caramel malts. I used to really like my bw’s hoppy and bitter, but this one might be a little overkill. Still, a very drinkable and tasty treat. Thanks Tom. mephisto (1144), Taiwan

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 16, 2007 22oz. Bottle: Aroma is a little sweet. Smells malty and like chestnuts, but also has some hoppiness and pine to it. Poured an orange/ruby/mahogany color with a medium tan head that lasted throughout. Very good lacing. Clear. Sparkling. Flavor is lightly sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes a little caramel malty to start but then becomes hoppy with notes of resin. Medium body. Slick texture. Average carbonation. Long, bitter finish is also a bit salty. A nice Barley Wine. sneagrams3 (1757), St. Louis, Missouri, USA

Full bodied with a great complexity. Sweet and citrus with a long bitter following. Big sweet sugary malts. Good amount of alcohol, noticeable but not too daunting. Grapefruit citrus flavors. Finish is sticky and cloying. The bitterness ebbs but lingers. Subtle notes of raisins and sweet cinnamon breads. Fantastic barley! KingpinIPA (842), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
