Commercial Description:
Our American-style Barleywine undergoes a three hour boil to intesify the caramel malts and the enormous Pacific Northwest hop charge. The result is a rich, estery brew with toffee notes and citrus hop flavors layered throughout. Enjoy this brew fresh today or lay it down for aging to see how the flavors of each vintage evolve.

On tap at the brewery in Vista. Pours a cleaner looking amber brown with a thin, khaki colored head that dissipates quickly and leaves some delicate lacing. Aroma is quite big. Lots of piney hops, candi sugars, dark fruits, and sweet caramels. The taste is quite nice as well. Sweet, but doesn’t have that thick, syrupy sweet taste that some barley wines have. Lots of floral and piney hops, toffees, candi sugar, prunes, raisins, a bit of molasses, and citrusy fruits. Very nice balance throughout before a sweet, but piney bitter, dry finish with a long, intense aftertaste. Palate is medium bodied, but very smooth and soft. Coats the mouth well. Overall, a quality barley wine. Well crafted and obviously taken care of. Good stuff.

Not sure of the year as it was still bottled as 2nd Anniversary, Thanks Toby! - Pours dk amber with a small off white head...aroma is dark, dried fruit, malt, and some hop florals...flavour is nicely balanced, sweet and sticky but tempered with nice bitterness and everpresent alcohol...

Bottle 50cl. @ home.
[ Vintage 2008 ]. Clear medium to dark orange color with a large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to beige head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy malty, caramel, dry fruity, raisin, prune, moderate to light heavy hoppy, orange. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and heavy bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily - syrupy, carbonation is soft. [20090113]

Pours a copper/ruby with exceptional clarity. Three finger off white head- good retention and soapy lacing. Nose- caramel and leather and faint pine. Taste- pine and juicy fruit initially, then big caramel malt. Nutty and bready as well. Dry hot finish. Carbonation is on the low side making it an easy sipper. A very sticky and pungent barlewine. Nice stuff

A nicely balanced barleywine. Pours a deep chestnut with decent tan head. Aroma of dark fruit, raisins, cherries and almost a chestnut quality. Full bodied, but not overly so. Easy drinking, nice bw.

This beer pours a reddish-brown color with a medium-sized off-white head. The aroma burst out with piney and grapefruit tones. The flavor was quite bitter...citrusy, with a slight sweetness (but not enough for a good barleywine.) The feel was sharp, dry, with just the right amount of thickness to it. Pretty good "California Barleywine."

220x bottle poured into tulip. I had my expectations set very high as I have been on a roll LOVING everything green flash has been putting out. Poured into a tulip. Pours a glossy amber color with a frothy creamy white head. Substantial lacing, and head doesnt fall apart. very nice. Smell is a little one note, but i am a little congested. Smells of slight pine, a little apple, and a little bit of bread. Taste is off. Its a hoppy barleywine, but something tastes funky. The hops arent flavorful, more just bitter, and the bitterness isnt on the back end. So the sweetness is getting beat up with the bitter hops. Somethign just tastes old to me. A little sweet and sticky. I wont finish this 22. :(
