Pours clear deep copper with micro thin off white head. The aroma has lots of resiny pine hop notes backed up by full wood aromatics and a bit of booze. The taste is a bit harsh with pine hops and booze followed by some rich malty sweetness. Toward the finish I get a welcomed touch of toffee. It finishes a bit dry. Overall the beer ends better than it starts. Still, tasty stuff.

Nice after taste. jsquire (2113), St. Marys, Ohio, USA

Deep copper color with a thin beige head that quickly shrank to a lasting ring. Lots of barrel in the nose. I found this to be pretty boozey with flavors of melted toffee, burnt caramel and stale bread pudding. It seemed like a pretty green beer. Snojerk321 (2003), San Diego, California, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 12, 2009 2007 vintage on draft at hamiltons during SDBW: pours a gleaming amber with a lasting, frothy head. Nose is mature, sweet, and creamy-like, with hints of vanilla and maple sap and a vegital raw pumpkin kick.. Mouth is nicely creamy yet a bit sticky sweet...brandy barrel-esque for sure. Aged hop residue rounds things out...just a little sticky sweet and syrupy to be entirely enjoyable. However, its very creamy and flavorful regardless. AmEricanbrew (1925), Wynot, Wyoming, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 29, 2009 Draft@ The 2009 Great Alaska Beer and Barleywine fest. 2007 version from a Heaven Hill barrel. Clear amber with a tan head. Nice caramel sweet, boozy vanilla aromas. Full bodied with light carbonation. Huge ass boozy vanilla flavor with sharp caramel and pit fruits.
Think Barleywine with a shot of booze.
