Commercial Description:
This English-style Summer Ale has a bright golden color as the name indicates. Cascade hops impart a floral aroma that is accented by citrus notes lent from Chinook hops. The hop flavors mingle with with premium pale malted barley to create a flavorful ale that is crisp and refreshing.

pours a nice amber with a white head. smells of light bitter citrus & hops. tastes crisp & fresh; hops, citrus, & green tea flavors evident. a little papery & a slight metallic aftertaste though. smooth and crisp mouthfeel with a slightly bitter aftertaste. a little heavy for an APA. not a fan of the metallic flavor, it kind of ruins the whole thing. hopefully this was just a bad batch, because other than that it’s a pretty nice APA.

Had this beer on 10/21/2006. Aroma is a light fresh hop scent. Color is light bright gold with very good carbonation and a nice head. Taste is light, crisp and hoppy. Starting with a light body it goes down with a crisp feel. Finish comes in with a bold hop flavor and bitterness with very light malt tones. In the end it is refreshing yet bitter.

12oz Bottle, consumed 9/15/07. Pours a deep golden color with dense white foam that lingers and leaves great lacing. Aroma is typical GF, nice malt notes, non-offensive yeastiness and some nice subtle hoppiness. Very rich maltiness, a rarity for the style, with the right touch of hops. Perfectly drinkably. I’m liking GF more and more, had some very bad experiences with old beer from them before, when fresh their stuff is top notch.

12oz bottle, courtesy of wetherel. Thanks, John! Pours a medium golden color; a bit of effervesence from the bottom and a mild haze; fluffy, bright white head with textured retention and lacing that coats the sides of the glass like soap suds; a beautiful pour. A bit light in the aroma: mostly minerals and a very light citrus bitterness, with a steady hint of lime. Medium mouthfeel: lively citrus hop character upfront (lime, lemon, and minerals) with a dusty note throughout; not exceptionally dense or resiny, but nicely balanced with a mild grainy malt character (dusty, tea-like malts); quite drinkable, although the dusty note reappears in the finish; by then, the hops have taken a back seat.

from bottle. pretty drinkable, if i’m hammered and I can ignore the caramel cardboard with some hops lingering in the background. no thanks to bevmo, i’m sure. this was a damn good beer on tap, but not in the bottle. less crystal 40/60, please. lower mash temp, more attenuation. GF, please stop bottling and concentrate on kegs only for a while. be selective about distributors and hire some microbiologists to help give your product proper shelf life.
