Commercial Description:
Our Belgian Style Dark Ale is inspired by traditional Abbey Ales to deliver the richest of malt flavors but with a slightly elevated hopping and increased complexity given from two different yeast strains. This malt laden ale is designed to satiate and keep your taste buds dancing.

Pours deep mahogany into a trappist glass. Off-white head with good retention recedes to skim surface an hug rim. Fig, raisin, caramel and alcohol aromas. Thick with upfront dark caramel, pit fruits and a lasting yeasty hop and alcohol finish.

courtesy of jdubfl. Pours amber with tan head. Aroma of Belgian yeast with presence of dark fruits. Taste, is strong malty palate, dark fruits and grainy with the ever present strong ale sugar like mouthfeel. Finish of light hops.

Sampled on 2/26/2009. This Belgian Strong Ale pours a deep brown color form a 22oz bottle. Small to medium sized beige foamy head. The aroma is dark fruits and raisins, caramel and sweet. A medium bodied Belgian Strong Ale. The malts are dark fruits, bready and sweet. Lots of raisin flavors. Filled with lots of those Belgian esters and fruitiness that one would expect from a BSA. Bright yeast. Decent carbonation. Touch of banana and clove at the finish. Some bottle aging seems to have dried this one out a little, a quick taste during the RBSG seemed to be a whole lot sweeter. Hides the 9% alcohol very well. Nice sipping beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and dry. Aftertaste is slightly sweet, but there is some bitterness as well.

Bottle, courtesy someone. Clear black reddish pour, filmy white head and thick lacing. Nose of dark Belgian fruit, some toasty bready notes, pear, chocolate and distant roast. Rich dark fruit flavors, with chocolate, coffee, caramel and molasses, with some licorice, brown sugar and a very nice overall complexity. Smooth body, very balanced and very delicious. Surprised by this one, it’s really good.

22oz bottle sampled thanks to pantanap. Pours a dark brown black with a beige head. The Belgian yeast is spicy with phenols, brown sugar, plums, and slightly sour notes. The spicy yeast and dark fruit malt don’t complement each other ell. Dark fruits, burnt malts, yeast and dough flavors that have an earthy/funky tinge. Finishes burnt and spicy. Maybe this beer would never be that great, but the odd yeast doesn’t benefit this beer.

Bottle from Belmont Party. Poured clear brown color with medium frothy brown head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Aroma was complex roasted sweet malty and citrus. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium bittersweet dark flavor with medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Good brew.
