Aroma was of brown sugar, burnt sugars, dark fruits, and chocolate. Very complex smelling. Flavor had a little alcohol, chocolate, bitterness and some yeast to it. This was a real solid beer i liked it a lot. malrubius (1004), Valley Stream, New York, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 17, 2008 This is a nicely conditioned beer. The head is composed of very tight little ecru bubbles, very foamy. The initial aroma promise something very dubbel-like, a bit of tobacco and sweet dark malts, with a grainy and hoppy overlay. Then, however, it starts to fall apart. The second this thing rises above 54 degrees or so (I pulled it out of the fridge at 52), it gets very fusely - huge alcohol presence. More grain, more hops (way out of style), sweet and quite hoppy. Fair, but not smooth - rough. Praetorian (86), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 17, 2008 Dark brown in color with a small off white head; it looks somewhat like a stout. The aroma is of apples, spices, and bananas. The flavor is of dark fruits, leather and tobacco. The texture is syrupy. Overall Id say it’s not bad, but not my style. hopscotch (5511), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 16, 2008 Bottle... Clear, very dark, copper ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Good retention. The nose provides dark malts and esters of dark fruit and banana along with a phenol of clove. Full-bodied and creamy with lively carbonation. Much like the aroma, the flavor offers sweet, dark malts and dark fruits. Modest notes of tobacco, dried plum and light molasses are also revealed. Medium sweet; mildly bitter with just a touch of clove. Finishes moderately sweet and lightly spicy. eaglefan538 (2397), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 15, 2008 Bottle from SL. The pour was dark brown colored, nice generous off-white fluffy style head, good continuous to spotty lacing. The aroma was fruity grapes, dark fruits, yeasty/bready notes. The flavor followed the aroma, some caramel mixed in there, light chocolate, finishing with a bit of a bitter roasty touch. The mouthfeel was airy big, firm carbonation. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 15, 2008 Had a lusciously creamy pour. Mysteriously dark. Smooth and weighty on the tongue with a milkshake-like finish. Extremely flavorful, rich and decadent. Roasty aromas carried hints of various dark fruits, especially raisin, fig and dates. A full sweetness … toffee and maple … rounded things out. Subtle nips of anise, pepper and grass added to the complexity. Great stuff.
