Commercial Description:
Our Belgian Style Dark Ale is inspired by traditional Abbey Ales to deliver the richest of malt flavors but with a slightly elevated hopping and increased complexity given from two different yeast strains. This malt laden ale is designed to satiate and keep your taste buds dancing.

2009-10-12. Dark brown body with a nice foamy tan head. Aroma is lightly metallic, brown ale like roast/toast touche, modest dark fruit, light alcohol. 7+ Flavour is similar, dark malt base is moderate, toasty malt touches, dark fruit and dry alcohol in the finish are prominent, bitterness in the finish is tough to separate from the dryness of the alcohol. Light spice tones to warming alcohol in the background. Smooth medium to full bodied palate. 3+ Pretty solid. Bottle from Premier Gourmet, Buffalo

This bottled brew from Patrick767 at a rating party poured a medium sized head of foamy finely sized tan colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a transparent softly carbonated dark brown colored body and a fair lacing. The aroma was dark malt and mild vinous. The crisp mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish mild vinous hop aftertaste. The flavor contained notes of mildly vinous and dark malt. A decent one but not one that I would consider having again.

In short: A robust dark kind-of-Belgian ale. Very sweet, very fruity, very hoppy (tobacco)
How: Bottle 22oz. Consumed about 6 months after purchase.
The look: Clear dark ruby-mahogany body topped by a persistent small dark beige head
In long: Nose of a baked dark fruits dessert. This is a sweet beer with a sticky body. Main flavours are burnt toffee, raisins, cookies, brown sugar, plums, roasted wood. The initial flavour is really like a baked sweet dark fruit dessert. Then comes a truckload of hops that are far from the dry grassy noble hops of the refreshing fruity American hops. I would describe the hops flavour as tobacco leaves. Slight black pepper sensation. I was a big disappointed by this beer since a beer from a renown brewery with “Grand Cru” on the label usually means a higher quality product. My initial enthusiasm was soon let down, like the evening news where they begin with “Good evening” and then proceed to tell you why it isn’t.

22 oz bottle
This bottle has been hiding on the back of a shelf for a few months now. Running across it one night I decided to give it a try. After all if it is good I can get more; if not I know to move on to the next item in the store. As it turns out I may buy more of this if the price is right or I am looking for something out of the ordinary for someone who has a routine. It is a decent Belgian strong ale but I have bad better.

Aroma / Appearance - The deep brown body is so dark as to be almost black. A creamy faintly white head crowns the top. Cinnamon, chocolate, dark cherries, and a slightly cloying sweetness form an acceptable combination.

Flavor / Palate - Pepper, cherry, and vanilla create an unusual blend that I was not expecting at all. Carbonation takes over the finish and slightly overwhelms the malt. Warming after a few sips the mouthfeel is thick but not suffocating. Take away the tinge of ethanol and this would be a winner.

bottle poured a medium brown in color with a thin off white head. aroma has light spice, dark fruit, sweet malt, and a nice yeast snap. mouth feel is medium but coats well. flavor has more dark fruit than expected, plumb, very mild spices, nice yeast, and medium sweetness.
