| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 3, 2009 THOUGHTS: Rather Belgian, but with a slight twist. It’s basically a little bit stronger version of a dubbel with some west coast hops. Hid the alcohol well. There was more aroma and flavor the warmer it got. I think the hops kind of detracted from what would be a really nice dubbel. The hops in the aroma were nice, but not so much in the flavor.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, dark brown that was red in the light with a small, light tan head that mostly diminished and left fair to good lacing. The aroma was moderate caramel malt, light chocolate, light citrus hops, light spicy and fruity yeast, flowers and a little tropical fruit. The initial flavor was sweet and bitter; while the finish was sweet, bitter and slightly acidic with a long duration. There was caramel, maple syrup, slight chocolate, a little roasted malt, Fruits, a little brown sugar, yeast, a little pepper and then some citrus hops. The medium to full body was slightly syrupy then all dry with fizzy carbonation and a light alcoholic finish, that also becomes metallic once the yeast was poured in the glass. The head is creamy and mostly lasting. It also provides good lacing. Has a good sweet aroma of fruits, caramel, and sugar. Has a good carbination. Has some real good flavors. This reminds me of a Belgain from Belgium. Has a good blending. A solid finish with a good aftertaste. Has a watery to dry texture. A tiny little alcohol burn. A good drinking beer.
