TheGrandMaster (1853), Auckland, New Zealand Nov 17, 2009 Bottle (in NZ). Looks alluring in the glass, with a big frothy off-white head. I love the fruitiness of Amarillo, so I’m easily sold on this. A sticky resinous on the palate, that works well with the rich and light toastedness of the malt, with a touch of pepper in the finish. alagnak (321), Littleton, Colorado, USA Nov 14, 2009 Interesting one - this is a tale of two beers. Poured @ fridge temp - the Amarillo completely dominate the nose (in a good way) - spicy, grassy light grapefruit. Flavor is initially a short burst of toffee and caramel malt that didn’t show up in the nose with a little leather before fading to a really bitter dose of grapefruit. As it warms, the toffee and slightly sweet maple syrup flavor starts to take over and balances a lot better. oteyj (722), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA Nov 9, 2009 Brown pour with an excellent frothy beige head and copious sediment. Aroma is toasted and caramel malt, marshmallow, and a resinous hop backbone. Flavor is an excellent balance of caramel, toffee malt, and citrusy pine. Hop character is high for the style, but welcomed and pleasant. Palate is medium bodied with below average carbonation, and a pleasant sticky resinous finish. For the style, its grand. craftycarl21 (518), South Hero, Vermont, USA Nov 9, 2009 Quite a brown pour with a nice thick frothy head, beige in color; sediment present as well. Aroma holds lots of caramel malt, toffee, molasses, and some citrus and resinous hops in the background. Flavor is predominantly malt, with, again, lots of caramel, toffee, and a touch of maple syrup. Hop character is subtle, but balances the malt nicely, with a bit of floral dryness at the finish. Palate is pleasant, and certainly full considering the style. Nice brew from Green Flash. wcampbell (572), Central, South Carolina, USA Nov 8, 2009 I wouldn’t call this an amber, but anyway... Good beer, but a little unbalanced. Could have been a Double IPA if it had more malt. Lightly sweet grapefruit hop flavor dominates everything else. A little different than a normal IPA, but pretty typical. Very drinkable considering the strength. Medium bodied. beerbill (1936), Laurel, New York, USA Nov 3, 2009 12 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with blutt59. Pours a hazy amber with a moderate off-white head that lasted through the first third of the glass and leaves lots of tiny pinpricks for lace. Very pleasant aroma of grapefruit along with some notes of sweet malt. The flavor is less fruity and more pith with grapefruit bitterness washing over a moderate malt and caramel backbone. Bitter finish. Solid beer. arondee (176), Tucson, Arizona, USA Nov 1, 2009 Pours a dark red amber with a fluffy white head. Tons of carbonation, good lacing. Aroma is piney hops and malt. The taste is earthy, piney hops, some caramel, with slightly sweet sticky malt. Very good, I’m glad I got a 6 pack. Gr0ve (1382), Oslo, Norway Oct 31, 2009 355 ml bottle. Dark copper colour. Floaties in the botton of the bottle. Medium-sized white head that clings to the glass. Distinct caramelly sweet aroma with a definite grassy hop background. Rich and velvety malty body. Resiny hops. Caramel is there all the way. Not that bitter, as there is a lot of residual sugars. Nice. Very drinkable.
