(Bottled) Very hazy darkish red-amber with lots of small, floating particles, and a smallish, firm and lacy head. Very flowery-perfumy aroma with strawberry fruitiness and caramely malt. Strongly aromatic-hoppy, caramely-malty flavor with lots of fruitiness, but also slight ashy-acidic notes. The hop profile reminds me of NBE, which is a good thing :). Medium body, medium carbonation. The caramely-fruity malt and flowery-perfumy hops mix pretty well, with the only failure being the slight ashiness. I guess this would be great fresh from the tap.

Nose is hops: Pineapple, flowers, and perfume. Hint of cookie in there also. Flavor is sharply bitter, simple flavor of grassy, perfumed floral hops. Bit of bread/cookie in the finish. I’m somewhat disappointed by the one-layer flavor this has; sharply and lastingly bitter, with none of the assorted richness/layers of flavor I associate with extra-hopped beers. Texture is watery with a slight oily-after feel.

Draft. A slightly hazy brown beer with a thin orangey head. The aroma is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, and grapefruit, but mainly hops. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, straw, and grapefruit, leading to a bitter finish.

Clear medium amber red color with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, moderate to heavy hoppy, pine, grapefruit, orange. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. [20090119]

THOUGHTS: Not as good as their West Coast IPA, but still very nice. Sort of like a west coast with more of a malty backbone; more so in the aroma than in the flavor. I usually prefer malty to hoppy amber ales, but this was nice. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a murky, medium brownish, coppery red with small to large particles in the body of an average to thick density and an average, creamy, light tan head that slowly diminished, keeping a nice sheet and leaving excellent lacing. The aroma was moderate cookie, caramel and biscuit malts, ever so slight milk chocolate, moderate to heavy grapefruit and orange hops, tea and light tobacco. The initial flavor was sweet, acidic and bitter; while the finish was very sweet, acidic and rather bitter with a fairly long duration. There was citrus hops, grapefruit and orange, caramel malt, biscuit, tea and then a little metallic hops. Yeasty too. The medium body had lightly fizzy carbonation and a ever so slightly metallic and lightly astringent finish.

2009-06-01. Dark red-brown body with a modest foamy beige head. (4+) Aroma is hoppy but on the mild side. Mild resiny hop character, mild sweet malt supports. (6+) Flavour has a pleasant bitterness throughout, sweet malt core is supportive but secondary. Muted caramel undertones. Smooth average plus palate. (3+) Pleasantly quaffable. Hop presence is likely a bit more assertive fresher - this has been in the house for a month or three. Still rather pleasant. Bottle from Premier Gourmet, Buffalo

Bottle. Nice head with good duration. Color is brown. Aroma and taste are rich hops, flowers and some caramel. Quite bitter finish.
