This has been resting in the bottom of the fridge for about two months now ever since I found it on a beer run. After having the Imperial IPA I wanted to try this; Green Flash seems to know what they are doing regardless of the style. Snap it up while you can - this should be one that everyone tries at some point.
Aroma / Appearance - The rich ruby body held up a bubbly white head. Escaping from the glass was a combination of rye bread, nutty malts and woody cherries. At the same time hoppy and malty it was a treat for all senses.
Flavor / Palate - Starting from a hoppy introduction it makes itself known without being overly aggressive. From pine it relaxes into a lingering resin on the back of the throat. I might only be able to finish one because it straddles that line between amber ale and IPA but it would be time well spent. willblake (2187), Belcamp, Maryland, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 25, 2008 Updated: Mar 12, 200920080925 12oz bottle, Spirits RB. Hazy, particle filled, deep copper-amber color with stickily lacing but quickly fading beige head. Aroma is quite pissy, chock full of Amarillo, but fading malts are doughy in the background and something is weirdly smelling of singed greens. Flavor is dominated by resinous hops and then scraped away violently by a harshly astringent finish. This is one beer that definitely took more than an ounce or two to come to grips with. At a fest or tasting, I think I would have been wooed by the hops and probably scored it higher than deserved.
20090312 - have had a bunch more samples because it’s a fresh and available hop fix. Liking it more lately, slight bump to score, up from 3.1. FoolishMortal (966), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 24, 2008 12oz bottle. Hazy dark orange-red with a small light brown head. Candied citrus and caramel/raisin malt aromas. Light citric and floral hop characters. Caramel, alefruit, ruddy earthen malt flavors then manifest. Vegetal astringent hop presence in the finish, with lingering biscuity caramel. Mouthfeel is medium, somewhat drying. AlabastorJones (766), San Francisco, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 22, 2008 amber ale? really? it says red right on it... anyway, brown rouge without a head, mild amarillo nose, very similar to Ninkasi’s believer, but milder and less sweet, dry palate and hop finish, club soda carbonation, hints at citrus rind bitters, sort of that back of the palate bitter, nothing overly sweet fresh or fruity here, an interesting and worthy ale, but by no means an amber, I’ll blame ratebeer for that though and won;t hold it against the brew
