Commercial Description:
Resinous hop character and bitterness balance the rich caramel malt base. We took it a step further and Amarillo dry hopped the brew to 45 IBUs, creating refreshing and savory hop flavors and aromas. Is it Red IPA? That’s your call.

12 oz bottle. Pours a light reddish brown with a medium sized frothy off white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is sweet caramel malts and resinous piney hops with a touch of alcohol.

The flavor is sweet caramel malts, nuts and some sugary fruit quickly followed by a big bitter resinous grassy hop finish that lingers in the charry aftertaste. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and slightly watery.

Overall, a one dimensional brew for the hop lovers. I prefer a little more balance and the brighter hops.

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting. Body is clear dark amber. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), moderately to heavily hoppy (resin), with a light note of black tea. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately to heavily bitter. Medium to full body, velvety/creamy texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Being a hophead is prerequisite for this one, i.e. not needing much else in the aroma to be pleased. It’s a solid effort for what it is (especially in the appearance and mouthfeel departments), but it’s just too rough-edged and one-dimensional to be exciting for me. Definitely west coast styled.

Bottle bonused in trade from stefanje. Thanks!
Pours a gorgeous reddish opaque amber with a creamy beige head and lots of lacing. Smell is sweet and hoppy. Balanced with zesty rye like grain smells and earthy, spicy and fruity hops. Very nice. Taste is crisp, sharp and hoppy, yet flavorful malt and sweetness is not far behind. Very rye like, spicy and delicious. Tastes incredibly fresh and leaves a nice satisfying bitterness. Rich body, with crisp carbonation. Wow, what a fantastic beer, especially for not having heard of it before! Really can’t find any flaws. Thanks again for this one!

reddish brown our with a medium sized off white head. Caramel, rye, and hop aroma. Flavor is similar, lots of grapefruit and pine malt with a stronger than usual caramel malt background. Finishes dry, mildly bitter.

Draught at Falling Rock. Very dark red color with ample foam. Big time hop nose, impressive smelling. Hints of grapefruit and big time resin. Basically it smelled like a big sack of hops. Flavor is big on resinous hops and packs a punch. Nicely hopped, but also a nice malt backing as well. This was a very nice red ale.

This dark amber ale poured with a decent tan head and a floral and caramel malt aroma. This beer is seriously hopped. However, the sweet caramel malt base offsets the hop bitterness, resulting in a nicely balanced flavor.

A red IPA? I’m not so sure about that, but a hoppy red nonetheless. This beer has several characteristics. Caramel malts, spicy, dry and hoppy all combine to make this unique beer. The aroma is very fresh and floral. I would not kick this beer out of bed for sure, but not my favorite style. I do applaude Green Flash for creating a different beer.

Deep amber-red. Hazy with floaties. Nice head; really sticky, foamy lace. Mouthfeel was full and chewy. Rich malts were filled with caramel, nuts and toffee. Boston baked beans, too. Very lush and aromatic hops ... grassy, piney, snappy. Nice bitterness to boot. Really tasty stuff. I loved it.
