riversideAK (1653), Shoreline, Washington, USA May 4, 2007 This and Moylander IIPA are what I rate all other Imperial IPA’s on. At least when it comes to somewhat readily available IIPA’s. I have not had Three Floyds Dreadnaught, and apparently that is the best IIPA, but this is pretty much it for me. Intense pine floral aroma. As it warms I also get a little fruit punch from the malt. The beer is a golden orange color. The flavor really is dominated by the 101 IBU’s. I get a ton of pine. It is balanced by the malt only slightly, but it is pretty much a hop bomb. A little bit of floral bitterness too. Very resiny on the palate. Dry and heavy mouthfeel. This is my favorite IIPA.
edmajorjoe (55), Vail, Arizona, USA Oct 12, 2008 Very hoppy. It has taste and palate that is very memorable. Smells just like it tastes. A great pour. Head remains on glass as you consume. jcr (853), Jasper, Indiana, USA Oct 11, 2008 Bottle. Straightforward double IPA with little depth. Light orange body. Thick, frothy, white head that diminishes. The aroma is mostly hoppy with notes of resin and rubber. Hints of toasted grain and bread dough. The flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic and moderately to heavily bitter. Medium to full body, smooth texture, sticky finish. Alcohol comes forward in the finish as the sweetness diminishes and the bitterness sticks around. Moderately acidic in the finish as well. xpimptastikx (27), Austin, Texas, USA Oct 9, 2008 Pour - a light amber, yellow when put up to light. Smell - Floral, piney, and lightly of oranges. Taste - Bitter, creamy, and slightly of oranges. I’ll be trying more of Green Flash’s line-up. CapFlu (3340), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Oct 8, 2008 (650ml bottle) Purchased at The Strath in Victoria for $5.95. Pours a quick dissipating, frothy white head atop a light orange body. Nose is great... Reminds me of Big Star’s IPAs. Very floral and bitter - and most importantly FRESH! It smells late-hopped. Flavour is so overly hoppy, creamy malt finish mashes the tart orange and pine flavours. Very good. 8/4/8/5/17 tjthresh (1328), Greenfield, Indiana, USA Oct 7, 2008 Pours a hazy yellow with some amber hues. Foamy off white head. Looks real nice. Super nose of sweat onion (typical from Sumimit hops and light pine background. really that’s about it, but it is surely enough. The flavor is not quite where I’d like it. The oniony Summit hops are there and taste very good, but I prefer things a bit more on the aggressive side. Medium body with and oily mouthfeel. Average carbonation with a sweet malt finish and a cutting bitterness. Really a fine beer.
