Commercial Description:
"San Diego-style IPA, as it has come to be known by many, is a super-hoppy, high gravity, yet highly quaffable ale. Green Flash Imperial IPA is created in this new tradition, with intense hop flavors and aromas from a unique blend of Summit and Nugget hops. It’s all about the hops!" -- Brewmaster Chuck Silva

ABV: 9% RateBeer rating: 97 Calories: estimated at 400 C Volume: 22 fl oz. Glass: snifter, tulip Purchased at: Oak Tree, South Plainsfield, NJ (Thanks, jay and Matt!) Price: $5.99 Consumed at: home First Impression: deep, smoky aroma and a simple gold body with a white head. Aroma is smoke, hops, and some funk. Visuals are a gold body with a persistent white head with very intricate lacing. Taste is a roller coaster - a bit metallic, somewhat mechanical, deeply hoppy, and lacking balance, which I don’t mind. Palate is sharply bitter with a smoky sourness. Long dark, deep finish. Rich. Second Impression - a very special IIPA, in that it imparts a sausagey flavor to the hoppy bitterness, and avoids the cloying answer to the bitterness and preserves the bitter crunch nicely. A great buy for such a very uniquely treated co-style. Aroma: 9 out of 10 Visuals: 4 out of 5 Taste: 10 out of 10 Palate: 5 out of 5 Overall: 18 out of 20

Very hoppy. It has taste and palate that is very memorable. Smells just like it tastes. A great pour. Head remains on glass as you consume.

Bottle. Straightforward double IPA with little depth. Light orange body. Thick, frothy, white head that diminishes. The aroma is mostly hoppy with notes of resin and rubber. Hints of toasted grain and bread dough. The flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic and moderately to heavily bitter. Medium to full body, smooth texture, sticky finish. Alcohol comes forward in the finish as the sweetness diminishes and the bitterness sticks around. Moderately acidic in the finish as well.

Pour - a light amber, yellow when put up to light. Smell - Floral, piney, and lightly of oranges. Taste - Bitter, creamy, and slightly of oranges. I’ll be trying more of Green Flash’s line-up.

(650ml bottle) Purchased at The Strath in Victoria for $5.95. Pours a quick dissipating, frothy white head atop a light orange body. Nose is great... Reminds me of Big Star’s IPAs. Very floral and bitter - and most importantly FRESH! It smells late-hopped. Flavour is so overly hoppy, creamy malt finish mashes the tart orange and pine flavours. Very good. 8/4/8/5/17

Pours a hazy yellow with some amber hues. Foamy off white head. Looks real nice. Super nose of sweat onion (typical from Sumimit hops and light pine background. really that’s about it, but it is surely enough. The flavor is not quite where I’d like it. The oniony Summit hops are there and taste very good, but I prefer things a bit more on the aggressive side. Medium body with and oily mouthfeel. Average carbonation with a sweet malt finish and a cutting bitterness. Really a fine beer.
