rudolf (1547), Buffalo, New York, USA Jul 12, 2008 Bottle. Hazy gold/orange, fluffy white head. Nose is big citrus - grapefruit, pine, mint, toffee & a hint of sugar. Flavor is citrus, surprisingly malty, pine needles, orange rind. Finish shows toffee, long lasting citrus, minty pine.
muenster (341), Sevierville, Tennessee, USA Aug 20, 2008 Bomber. Pours a lively orange with a small sized off-white head. The aroma is piney, with some orange and grass as well. Just about what I had expected, except not as pungent. The flavor is a slap in the mouth of bittering, resiny hops. After the initial hop onslaught subsides, there’s a good amount lingering under the surface. The malts are nicely placed to create a bit of an overall sweetness, and there is definitely a warming from the alcohol finish that seems to subside a little with each sip. This is one awesome hop monster. Juancho (190), New York, New York, USA Aug 19, 2008 Bomber, awesome.... beautiful copper/orange with tiny bubbles. Hops dominate but the malty backbone balances it out. Everything is balanced and just plain great. KnN (253), Greenbelt, Maryland, USA Aug 15, 2008 pours a beautiful almost neon orange with a thin long-lasting white head. The aroma of this beer is almost pure pine-type hops.
The flavor is bitter pine but there’s a hint of sweetness playing around the edges which is nice. You can kind of tell it’s a 9% beer, but the alcohol tint isn’t distracting at all. This is a nice Imperial IPA. Mes_and_Sim (4176), London, Greater London, England Aug 15, 2008 Updated: Aug 17, 2008A Mes rate: bottle thanks to our Magic. Amazing bright orange, very hazy with a thin but stable white head. Superb piney and resinous hoppage all round with the expected sugary malt. Gorgeous bitterness, lovely and dry and just really nicely ballanced all round. Slight ethanol like boozy notes. Tasty as hell and just what I needed right now. YUM. kmweaver (1948), Takoma Park, Maryland, USA Aug 13, 2008 22oz bottle. Pours a hazy, golden-orange color; creamy, significant light-tan head with great retention and lacing that coats the glass; very nice pour. Loads of juicy, resiny citrus and earthy hops in the aroma; very hop-forward and fresh; lemon zest, minerals, and lime; slight candy sugar / earthy core. Lively carbonation. Chewy candy sugar maltiness and zesty, spicy hops in a medium-to-full mouthfeel: very spicy, earthy, and citrus-laden hop character; mildest astringency and plenty of bitterness; very bitter, intensely hopped, mildly rough-edged double IPA; quite enjoyable overall; minimal touches of alcoholic warmth coming through. Lengthy finish: lots of spicy / citrus hops, earthy malts in the background, and plenty of lingering, chewy bitterness.
