Commercial Description:
Le Freak is a modern ale created by converging two beer styles, Belgian Trippel and American Imperial IPA. The use of two yeast strains further marries the styles and American hops give the beer its modern flare.

Bottle courtesy of Dr. Capone, PH.D. of Brewology. Pours turbid deep golden orangy with 3-fingers of creamy off-white head. Nose is spicy florals, hops, citrus, candi sugar, malt, slight funk. Tastes dry, floral, hoppy, spicy yeasty, with candi sugar, mild funk. Palate is very rich, very complex, bone dry but teeming with intertwined flavors. I dare say this one would stand up to the finest Belgians in a blind taste test, and I’m willing to put this theory to the test if someone sets up a blind USA vs. Belgium Abbey Tripel tasting. I’ll even chip in handsomely for the beer, although I’ll need a place to crash.

Get more IPA than Belgian here with a stingingly bitter citrus finish. Color is dark orange, pretty clear, and a lasting short white head. There is a decent sweetness alerting you to the fact this guy is pretty high powered. Bubblegum hop aroma is nice. Upfront malt and yeast flavor, some caramel mid palate, and then that bitter hop finish. Pretty nice but I’ve had better examples of this style recently.

bomber from grape and gourmet. pours a beautiful bright orange/amber, slightly cloudy, with a thick, bubbly white head and great lacing. i truly love the aroma of this brew. scents of big, sweet floral hops, cloves, cinnamon, brown banana, lemon rind, a touch of pine, black pepper, and coriander. flavor is one of a kind. starts off with big, fresh citrus hops, banana, rose petals, belgian yeast, coriander, and vanilla backed with slightly toasted, light malts, cinnamon, and a touch of alcohol. palate is medium bodied, very smooth, slightly creamy with high carbonation. leaves a very nice bitter, citrusy/sweet aftertaste. overall, one of the best american/belgian IPA’s i’ve tasted.

22oz bottle: Pours to an opaque, cloudy medium amber colored body with a medium eggshell colored head that lasts the entire length of drinking the beer (in my case about 20min/glass). The aroma is fruity esters of banana, clove, and peach skin, some sweet light malts, and hints of earthy & flowery hops. The taste is flowery hops and sweet bready malt up front, followed by some more intense spicy & pine bitter hops, a peppery alcohol burn, with some light lemon notes and a hint of sweet, lightly caramelized malt hiding in the background. The finish shows strong retronasal hop scents of grapefruit rind and pine, with residual sweetness in the mouth, almost covered up by the lingering bitterness from the hops. The body on this beer is perfect - medium bodied, medium carbonation, both of which combine with the unfiltered nature of the beer to create a silky, velvety & creamy mouthfeel, while still receiving crispness from the tiny carbonation bubbles created from bottle conditioning. Although the mouthfeel is perfect, I’m not sure I like the blending of these two styles as the hops tends to drown out some of the other flavors.

funky decent aroma,l taste is harsh with wild hop flavors. the malts give a flavor of an IPA the mouth feel is wild and scrubbing.

The aroma is very hoppy with citrus and grass. It’s also got fruit and malt. The appearance is hazy gold with a large head. The flavor is like the aroma and rather bitter. The palate is thin but smooth. Overall it’s decent but a little to astringent.

Beatiful hazy golden amber with big frothy head. Aroma is spicy yeast with a bit of pineapple sweetness. Taste is fusel alcohol, belgian yeast with big clashing bitterness. This one didn’t work for me...just clashes.

Flaske. Suverænt aftenens vinder. Klar strågul uklar øl. Kraftig humlet trippel smag, der fungerer upåklageligt. Virkelig en fin fin fusionsøl der bringer det bedste fra to verdener sammen.
