Commercial Description:
Le Freak is a modern ale created by converging two beer styles, Belgian Trippel and American Imperial IPA. The use of two yeast strains further marries the styles and American hops give the beer its modern flare.

From a 22-oz bottle. Has this beer paired with a nice fish dinner and it really went well. Appearance was a hazy-golden color with an aroma of oranges, belgian yeast and candi sugar. Taste the same as the aroma with the added additiona of a spicy taste of pepper at the finish.

Bottle from nearbeer. Poured a clear bright orange color. The head was creamy and off white. Attractive aroma of distinct flower blossom, clove, and orange marmalade. Light to medium bodied and dry-ish with moderate hop bitterness. The 9% ABV was noticeable, but not overpowering. The citrusy/piney hops and spicy flavors imparted by the Belgian yeast worked well together. I also tasted a bit of distinct grapefruit rind after the finish. Maybe a bit too much alcohol, but otherwise delicious.

Bottle. Pours with a copper to golden color. Smells like a fruity bread, with definite bready notes augmented by grapefruit. Flavor is a nice mixture of hoppy notes and Belgian characteristics, a lot of pine and flowers together with some spice and dough. Finishes with a bitter note.

(22oz bottle) Purchased at Brewery Creek in Vancouver, BC. Great big, foamy white mountainous head with a clear, deep amber, highly carbonated body. Nose of amarillo and cascade hops and a bit tinny aroma finish. Great sweetness, wild yeasti-goodness, strong pine flavour with a lasting bite. I’d definitely have this again, very nice 8/5/8/4/16

Bottle shared with Turbo during his feedom holiday. Hazy gold body with white head. Left good amout of lacing on the glass. Too much belgian grainy, yeasty and spice aroma and flavor to get my attention that this has two styles to it.

One of several New Years Eve delights shared with friends. Hazy deep brassy gold with a thick robust white head. Fruity aroma of pear and melon and pineapple with some subtle yeast. Fruity palate correlates well with the nose with the yeast still present. The finish is where the IPA character comes in with a sure-handed bitterness. To me this seemed like a hopped-up saison more than anything. Well done!

Bottle from Davis CoOp. This brew is an interesting mix, as the Calique from Stone. I found the pairing of the strong grapefruit on the front end disruptive to the palate. The piney/fresh citrus approach is much more palatable than bitter citrus. Still, it was a worthwhile try.
