Commercial Description:
Le Freak is a modern ale created by converging two beer styles, Belgian Trippel and American Imperial IPA. The use of two yeast strains further marries the styles and American hops give the beer its modern flare.

22 ounce bottle purchased at the Davis Food Co-Op. Hempy, piney, citrus hops are present in the nose. Plenty of Belgian yeast banana esters are in there as well. A bit musty. Aroma is intriguing. Mostly transparent golden body with a medium off-white head that is pretty strong. Starts with an orange-flavored hoppiness, which is pretty tasty. It becomes a little sweet and chewy before the Belgian yeast kicks in to give it some banana flavors. A little ethanolic after that, with some piney, grapefruit hop flavors rounding this up. An interesting brew, but I’d rather have their regular IIPA.

bottle from fiver29: pours a hazy golden colour with a big white head. aroma is very nice full of belgina yeast and lots of american hops, sweet malts seem to bring the two together to make a very nice aroma.very enjoyable. flavour is very belgina upfront with lots of the sweet amlts and good yeast character. the finish is all american ipa with lots of bitter hops some earthy grass and touvhes of grapefruit. a interesting idea that seems to fit. a little over the top on the hops but enjoyable.

On-tap at The PB Tap Room. Pours cloudy amber with a bi white head, good lace. Smells yeasty and bready malty with a mellow, sweet hop profile. Tastes about the same with the belgiany yeast and malt except that the hops are more pronounced, bitter and grassy. Nice mix. This is one of the best of this bastard style. Medium body, good carbonation.

Brass colored beer with a white head and a really nice fruity smell. The taste is really fruity with a really nice amount of hops. This is not hop slaughter. It is quite flowery and quite bitter. It also leaves no aftertaste which is welcome relief from most D.I.P.As that do.

22oz bottle courtesy Durhambeer. Cloudy orange pour with a thick white head. Sweet malt aroma, lots of spice and pepper and big earthy hops. Tatse is medium bodied, huge spicy hop taste with hints of pepper and orange. Dry bitter hop aftertaste. An interesting collaboration of styles, very big and bold yet exhibiting some nice Belgian yeast influences. Good beer.

Bottle. Poured a clear golden-orange color with a thick white head that faded to a layer but left nice lacing. Aroma of sweet honey, a bit of clove and banana, belgian yeast, and some leafy American hops with some pine. Aroma was much hoppier than I anticipated. Smooth, lightly sweet entry with some light honey quickly transitions into a fresh, leafy hoppiness with some light citrus fruit and a light belgian yeastiness that dries the palate. Dry and crisp on the palate thanks to the fresh hops. Much better than I expected.

Bottle. From Jessup Plaza. Nice cloudy orange pour with a small white head. Aroma of banana and clove, along with some hop aromas. Taste is nice with some banana and clove along with some nice dry hops. Very enjoyable.
