Commercial Description:
Le Freak is a modern ale created by converging two beer styles, Belgian Trippel and American Imperial IPA. The use of two yeast strains further marries the styles and American hops give the beer its modern flare.

Pours a glowing hazy gold amber, creamy big beige head that laces well, stays fairly big. Aromas throw some nice fruity belgian yeast, touch of spice, citrusy hops on the nose of lemon. Different than expected. Initial throws some fruity and belgian yeastiness, a bit estery and throwing down the nice lemony citrus hop bitterness further into the body and fuller/stronger than expected. Finish is dry and bitter, a bit of underlying fruit and belgian yeast. This one is an interesting hybrid, a little strong on the warming feel, but a very good beer overall. Cheers.

Bottle Pours out a cloudy straw topped with a white head. Aroma of citrus hops along with a nice spice. Tast was of caramel, more of the citrus and a little pine hop. A bitter end. This was a tasty brew.

body is light amber-gold, slightly hazy. head is very light tan, tall, and frothy/ creamy. aroma is sweet belgian caramel malt & fruity like apricots/peaches/fresh orange peel. faint pine needle hoppy aroma and belgian yeast too. flavor is sweet belgian caramel malt with bitter pithy hop right from the start. a little bit of stone fruit and peppery spice like a trippel, with a weak funk and a bit of alcohol heat. finish/aftertaste is hoppy bitterness. I’m not a fan of hoppy beglians but it’s pretty much exactly what they claim on the label.

This smells good, looks good and the taste certainly lives up to its FREAK title. I’ve had better more subtle "hoppy Belgians" but none this big. The higher ABV may be the driver of why they hopped the hell out of this one. I know this is not a true style but enough folks have been making these that I feel that this one is over hopped. Still a good beer but a little high on the IBU’s for this emerging style of brew.

Draft. A hazy amber beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma has notes of sweet malt, lemon, grass, peaches, and a bit of brettanomyces. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, peaches, lemongrass, and other spices, as well as lighter notes of alcohol, leading to a lightly tart finish.

A 0.5L bottle at Pikkulintu. Soft mild hoppy nose. Pale head. Slightly hazy golden yellow/orange colour. More than average hoppiness. More IPA than a abbey tripel. At the end hops bite.
