tokyogoat (505), San Diego, California, USA Oct 26, 2009 Pours a fairly murky brown.
Nose is big on raisin, candi sugar, red wine, hints of funk.
Taste is great, funkier than the nose would let in, nice earthy oaky and leathery taste, red wine and funk. Big sweet back to it. angrypirate06 (678), Texas, USA Sep 27, 2009 On tap at Stone Sourfest 09. Clear brown pour. Aroma is funky, caramel, hoppy, and nice grape sweetness. Flavor is caramel, some funkiness, wood and a bit of brett funk. alexanderj (2212), Chino Hills, California, USA Sep 22, 2009 On tap. Color was reddish/dark brown with an average sized head. Aroma of brett, wood, fruit, sugar and grapes. Flavor of cocoa, fruit, brett and cocoa. Average to mild sourness. A pretty amazing beer. wetherel (1565), Encinitas, California, USA Aug 20, 2009 Tried twice: At real ale festival and stone sour fest. Large bubble cask head. Dark brown color. Mild flavor, mild sweetness. Some brown sugar. Sourness is low if at all. Decent though. bu11zeye (5430), Frisco, Texas, USA Jul 26, 2009 (Draught) Pours a deep amber body with a medium off-white head. Aroma of raisins, yeast, brown sugar, leather, and vinous. Flavor of vinous, raisins, brown sugar, caramel, light funkiness, some spices, and subtle oak. daleharshman (181), San Diego, California, USA Jul 23, 2009 Tap at Stone Sour Fest 2009. Pours dark brown, almost black. Aroma is earthy malts along with some alcohol. Surprisingly not sour in the nose or the flavor considering the barrel aging and brett. Flavor is rich and sharp, almost stout-like with espresso tones. Oak flavors are present too. The finish is a medicinal-like bitterness rather than sour. This along with the Spicy Folie were my favorites at the festival. BMan1113VR (2755), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA Jul 22, 2009 On Tap at the Stone Sourfest, listed as Green Flash Grand Mantis-Merlot Barrel Aged Grand Cru, and I think it caught some people out into thinking it was the regular Mantis. Pours with a murky brown body and a small, off-white head. Taste of raisins and brown sugar, light wine, oak and brett. Light bubbles, very nice and quite a bit different than the regular Grand Cru (as far as I can remember). Snojerk321 (1914), San Diego, California, USA Jun 14, 2009 Cask at Pizza Port Real Ale fest 2009. Pours a lightly hazed ruby brown. Nose of red wine grapes, vinegar, oak and brett. Flavor was slightly tart with some funky vinegar and red wine. Lots of oak on the finish, fairly light on the Brett overall.
