Nose is extremely nutty and toasty with lots of caramel as well. This smells likes chocolate covered peanuts. In a nutshell, the nose is one of the best I’ve smelled on a brown ale. Taste is nutty and chocolatey with light caramel, toasty malts and faint fruity notes. Body is smooth, creamy and has a medium feel overall. Finishes with more nutty notes, chocolate, light caramel, toasted malts, and dark fruit notes. Very well done brown ale. I’d suspect this will be one of my favorites of this style! beerinmarch (2829), Washington, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 10, 2006 This is actually one of the more flavorful brown ales i’ve had in a while. Pours a rich mahogany color with a soft off-white head. Very nice flavorful sweetness up front, nutty, toasty, caramel, and some hints of dark fruit. Lighter body like most brown ales, but not as watery as most. pantani (1902), Salinas, California, USA

Flavor shows strong malts and caramel with hints of coffee and molasses. Bottle from the Bevmo in San Jose. bhensonb (4368), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 24, 2006 Chocolate aroma. Medium/dark amber color. Chocolate flavor, with a underlying sour component - but not so much as in Siletz ales. Medium feel. There’s enough hop to be noticeable, but the malt remains to the finish. This does not have the rough character of so many American browns. It also has much more character than such as Newcastle Brown. There’s something about a Green Flash ale. This is one of the better American browns. Civilized. The taste is chocolatey nut flavour, with little to no hop flavor - a very malt centered taste profile. Medium bodied with a thin texture. Best fresh from the fridge. Certainly a unique flavour with a strong malt profile. MacDaddyOJake (274), Richmond, Virginia, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 4, 2006 Much more hoppy than I had anticipated, and I never really found much nutty taste. Very English indeed, but I just couldnt get past the fact that there was so much caramel and molasses in the flavor. I was expecting a nut-brown ale, and thats not what I got... maybe if I was expecting something else, I would have rated it higher.... Snojerk321 (2020), San Diego, California, USA

Pours a nice deep amber color with an off white head that left a nice lacing on the glass. Nose of malt and hops, some dark fruits and coffee in there as well. The flavor was a bit more hoppy than expected.
