| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 6, 2008 Pours a muddy, dark brown into the glass, with a thin ring leaving sudsy lace down the pour. Malty nose, with some toasted notes. Malt predominates, somewhat dry, with a tiny hint of esters alongside chocolate and roasts. The finish does contain a nut essence, almost (but not quite) legume-like. Dry roasted bitters hang on the end of the pull at the back palate. Not bad, this one... just a little more unilateral than I would have liked. bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 2, 2008 Poured like a cup of coffee with light tan head and great lacing. ARoma was of not good coffe and chocolate. Flavor was roasted malts chocolate and coffee, little burnt flavor in there, nuttyness showed up after it warmed. Was a little sweet for my liking. obguthr (1049), Poquoson, Virginia, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 25, 2008 Deep brown-foxy beer with yellow head. Chocolate, and chocolate, and chocolate with nuts, and milkchocolate, and - OK, you get the idea. Sweet-nutty, if not too sweet, ending in chocolate. Medium bodied, syrupy. Oh well, good try - but it WAS excellent with the porc! TheBeerOrg (1583), Kentucky, USA

Aroma of toasted bread, brown malt, toffee. Taste of bready malt, toasted malt, raisins, toffee.Medium to full bodied with lush carbonation. Nice and malty brown ale. kassner (463), Wexford, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 1/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 21, 2008 Bottle from Three Sons. A little on the cold side, poured a muddy green brown. Not much odor, but a nice initial hops taste with lingering malt. A little saly, hints of molasses and licorice. Finishes dry and thirst quenching illidurit (891), Santa Cruz, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 18, 2008 Poured into a nonic. Deep auburn with mahogany highlights. Head is one finger tall and beige. It dissipates pretty quickly without leaving any lacing.
Aroma is heavy on brown sugar and toffee, making it immediately apparent that this is an English style beer. Hops are nowhere to be found. There’s a little nuttiness and red fruit too.
Flavor is balanced well between sweet malt and roastiness, but overall it’s not very robust. Toffee, molasses, and a peanut skin character round the malt profile out. On the watery side.
Body is a touch thin, and carbonation is a touch high. I was hoping this beer would be a little heartier.
