Commercial Description:
The Nut Brown is an English-Style Ale having rich caramel malt flavors and drying nutty characteristics in the finish. British and Belgian specialty malts are used in this brew to enhance the depth of malt flavor and aroma. Mild hops are used to lend just the right balance to the lush malt flavors and medium body.

12oz bottle. this sounds like a nice beer for a cold Chicago afternoon. pours dark reddish brown with small white head. nose is very nutty and bready. flavor is a bit stale toasted grains with a nutty finish. water body, short palate. carbonation is fizzy. decent but nothing special.

12oz. (from BevMo in W Hollywood, CA) I have to agree with DarkElf on this being an underated brewer. I really enjoyed this brown ale for it’s medium body and sweet nutty taste; went down smooth and not watered-down like a couple of others I know.

(Rating #1348)

Bottle. Pours a clear brown, nice off white head. Aroma was nuttty and caramel, just like the description above. Flavor was more of the same, got better as it warmed up. Nice beer.

12oz bottle-pours a foamy thin retaining tan head and amber color. Aroma is dark/medium malt-dark fruit. Taste is sweet dark/medium malt-toffee, dark fruit, secondary hops bite. OK carbonation. Thanks jwc215 for sharing.

07-Nov-07 (12 oz bottle: BevMo in La Jolla, CA) Green Flash isn’t always included on the list of San Diego’s best breweries, and it’s easy to overlook them as they don’t have the hype like AleSmith, Port Brewing and Stone. But Chuck has done an amazing job at Green Flash and his beers deserve more recognition. Even with a style that is often on the boring side -- the brown ale -- Green Flash has brewed a very flavorful and enjoyable beer. Packed with lightly sweetened chocolate and moderate nuttiness, it’s mildly roasty and slightly tart with a light hop character to give this medium-bodied brown ale some personality. It’s moderately sweet through the evolution, though not sugary or cloying, but the finish is dry, dusty and mildly roasty. On the palate, carbonation is soft yet ample, but the beer loses a little body in the finish and leaves a bit of astringency on the tongue. The nose is very chocolaty with moderate nuttiness. A half-inch of light-tan head caps the clear, ruby-brown body, but retention and lacing are fair. Good all-around beer and definitely above average for the style.
