Somewhat sweet that finishes with a light-moderate bitterness and a lingering roast. I loved the dimension on this. This is a very good example of a nut brown. I loved this brew. | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jan 26, 2006 Rich raisin and chocolate aroma dominate. Deep brown in color with a beautiful three finger thick mocha head. Lots of malt, raisin and caramel through all flavor ranges. Pleasing creamy mouthfeel. Good lacing and the carbonation level is spot on. Excellent brew. Icommonsewer (122), TUCSON, Arizona, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Sep 18, 2007 my wife and I call this excellent brew ’the lost cousin of Reapers Mortality Stout’... as there are hints of that brew in the spirit of this brown ale. Arguably the most flavorful brown ale we have ever had TheBeerLover (1019), DC Metro Area, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 30, 2006 12 oz bottle. Pours to a beautiful, bright, chestnut brown color, with a soapy, tan head, and a moderate carbonation. The nose on this beer is very inviting, with lots of good sweet and nutty malt aromas, paired with some mild, flowery hop aroma. The palate is firm with good biscuit, sweet, and nutty malt flavor. This beer finishes with more good nutty malt flavors, then ends with some mild hop bitterness to take the cloying edge off this beer. True to style, and a very well done domestic example of a classic British brown ale. A great session beer, and one that is a fantastic match with a number of dishes, from pub grub, to fish and chips, to a nice grilled NY strip. Orion1800 (51), Piedmont, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 11, 2007 I found this brown to be a little thin, but quite tasty. Great color and good aromoa. Nice roasted malt flavor. Overall I liked it, despite being a little thin and cover arbonated. thegreat78 (32), San Marcos, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jan 9, 2008 A very nice brown similar to a New Castle but not as vinious. More palate that a new Castle and more roasted malts. Mild hops and malt balance as described in the characteristics is correct. GreatLibations (1454), Last Supper, Arizona, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Aug 8, 2006 Pours a dark nutty amber brown color with a medium sized creamy froth. Aroma is a malty pecan w/ bright hops and if you dig deep you’ll catch a glimpse of buttery maple. Medium nectar w/ soft residual effers. Flavors are dry and malty with a defined nuttiness. A slight metalic flavor simmering in the background. Goes down creamy and finishes w/ a perfect English bitterness.
A nice specimen. Highly recommended! JamesCrosson (36), Fair Lawn, New Jersey, USA

The head is decent; for a beer this carbonated I’ll take it. The smell is excellent, makes my mouth water just smelling it. The taste is equally great. There is a great coffee flavor to it. Excellent.
