This is a heavy amber with a touch of bitter hops in the flavor. Not bad at all, but nothing special either. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA

Mellow malts and floral hopsaroma. Taste is more malty than hoppy with subtle hints of nuts, grapefruit and chocolate. Really clean and drinkable. Well done. The only real knocks are a quickly dissapearing head and a light aroma.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 15, 2004 Pours a dark amber with an off-white head. Aroma is malty and bread-y. Taste is of caramel malt, citrus and some nutty/earthy character. Good hop presence. Mouthfeel is full, round and creamy. Moderately bitter aftertaste. Taste is well balanced but it doesn’t really stand out at all. Overall, a decent brew. Goblincat (357), Westland, Michigan, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 8, 2004 Pours rust colored with a thin off white head. Citrusy and floral notes. Taste is a mix of watery hops and a little malt. Not a whole lot of flavor here, but pretty refreshing. Vac (2389), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jun 21, 2004 This brew pours with an amber body topped by a thin head with little lacing. The aroma is sweet and citrusy with a nice hoppiness. The flavor is bitter and hoppy with slight citrusy notes and a bunch of pine. There are some odd flavors as well. Light bodied, smooth and dry. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 4, 2004 Updated: Jan 28, 2005(12 oz bottle) Like their disappointing Extra Pale Ale, this pours very still with absolutely no head and no carbonation bubbles, so that’s not a good start. But it’s all uphill from here, as the flavor is more robust and hearty than expected from a red ale. In fact, it’s bordering on a brown ale in my opinion. It’s malty and fairly dry, moderately bitter and hoppy, and gently dark roasted and smoky in the finish. It has a general raw wort feeling to both the flavor and the malty nose. Despite the lack of carbonation bubbles, the mouthfeel is medium bodied and sufficiently carbonated. The color is also darker than expected, being more of a light brown. Not bad for a red ale, very drinkable and enjoyable.<hr>(12 oz bottle: BevMo in La Jolla, CA) Well, after rating several dozen ambers and reds this month, I’m revising my comments on this beer a bit. Since I’ve had several reds and even a few ambers that were more hearty and flavorful than this, I’ll call this an average beer for the style, not as robust as I first thought. However, I still say it has a modest roastiness that isn’t usually found in the style, and at least shares that with brown ales. Moderate bitterness shows modest dominance in the finish. Also, the head was significantly larger and longer-lasting this time around, though lacing was minimal. joshpiledean (226), Ames, Iowa, USA

Strange aroma, hoppy, but sweet. Strong malt presence, a little sweet. Suprised by the feel...it goes down very nice. Tycho (13), USA
