Commercial Description:
Golden naked oats mashed with dark crystal and robust roasted malts create a luscious black brew with a satin smooth finish. Layering UK Target hops in the boil adds a pleasant, earthy complexity while higher fermentation temperatures enhance the overall flavor with fruity esters. An old-world style, done the Green Flash way. Big, bold, flavorful and complex – Double Stout.

Getting notebook online. Bottle. Pours a creamy black. Roasted toffee, and dark fruit nose. Roasted coffee and malt flavors. Some solid chocolate too. Lots of different malt flavors blend well. Medium bodied with a slightly smoky and dry finish.

22 oz. bottle on 10/27/2008. Pours out a thick, opaque black, producing a slowly building , large, creamy tan head and abundant sheeting lace. Espresso and dark chocolate dominate the aroma, with some underlying notes of vanilla and spice. Full body with medium carbonation, creamy and smooth mouthfeel, and wonderfully rich. Excellent depth of flavor with treacle sweetness, roasted malt flavors lend balance, and a very soft spicy bitterness at the finish. This is a top drawer stout, not surprising from this brewer, who rarely disappoints.

Sampled from 22-oz bomber and shared during Surly D-Day. Pours an opaque dark brown brew with a light tan head that slowly dissipates to a tan ring and spotty lacing. Aroma of toasted dark malt, dark chocolate, coffee, a touch of vanilla and some oak. Taste is full bodied, light carbonation, with flavors of dark chocolate, toasted dark malt, some light vanilla, with some light citrus zest. Finish has a mild metallic texture from the extra alcohol with a nice chocolate aftertaste that slowly disappears.

#995 22 oz bottle from BevMo: The color is the darkest of browns with a generous light brown cocoa froth head. Dark chocolate, coffee, malted milk nose. Flavor starts rich dark chocolate and coffee with a dry coffee bitter finish and a bitter dark chccolate aftertaste. Full body is rich and creamy with lively carbonation. How is this not an Imperial stout? Rather Rasputin like.

Pours black, thick brown head. Nice ’’’’souty’’’’ aroma - chocolate, coffee, etc. Very rich flavor, very smooth. Subtle dark chocolate mix with coffee and a touch of dryness in the finish. Probably a bit more than the some of it’s parts - no one component stands out, but solid as a whole.

Bottle. Pours black with a luscious thick brown head the color of a chocolate milkshake. Aroma of rich sweet malt, roast, and coffee. Flavor of nice coffee and roast with some wheaty, bitter hops in the finish. Nice stout, approaching an imperial stout with iits strong mouthfeel. Rich, not particularly flavorful, but still a good drink.
