Commercial Description:
Golden naked oats mashed with dark crystal and robust roasted malts create a luscious black brew with a satin smooth finish. Layering UK Target hops in the boil adds a pleasant, earthy complexity while higher fermentation temperatures enhance the overall flavor with fruity esters. An old-world style, done the Green Flash way. Big, bold, flavorful and complex – Double Stout.

On tap, this stout poured, smelled and tasted like an Imperial, even with almost 9%. Beautiful beer. Deep brown with a thick dark tan head. The nose was full of chocolate, coffee and roasted malts. The flavor was quite the same with a finish that seemed to have a touch of oak and bourbon, although it’s not barrel aged. Being a bit thin on the palate was the only mediocre aspect of this beer.

Appearance is as black as it gets, with a large beige head and decent lacing. Roasted malt aroma with layers of cocoa, coffee, caramel and vanilla. Earthy, woodsy taste with a ton of rich, dark malt. Also showing up were hints of molassas, dark fruit, bittersweet chocolate and vanilla. Hops were more evident in the aftertaste. Full bodied, moderately carbonated mouthfeel. Long, lingering, bitter finish adds to the enjoyment.

Pours opaque and pitch black at the center, with just the faintest mahogany edge at the rim. A frothy, tan colored head is well retained, leaving nice flares and spots of lacing behind. The aroma is roasty up front, showing toasted oats, baker’s chocolate, and coffee, followed by a wave of nougat and caramel. Likewise, the flavor displays nice balance between roast, earthy hops, and choco-caramel sweetness. Medium-full bodied and velvety smooth, with no alcohol burn whatsoever, this one goes down way too easy. Really good, exceptionally balanced beer.

20080721 22oz bottle from State Line. Dark coffee brown, near black, medium, slowly fading tan head of lacing, tight foam. Aroma is luscious with plum, prune, roasty coffee, dark bread, light cocoa, and a nice dose of herbal/piny hops. Mouthfeel is slick, hefty, and finishing with a nice roasty, hoppy bite. Hearty stuff, and delicious. Now why doesn’t this one make it to NJ?

Courtesy beerlando. Black/dark brown, large, frothy, tan head. Raw grains, roasted malt, bittersweet chocolate, earth, dark dried fruits, some sweetness. Medium/full body, balanced carbonation. Very nice brew.

22oz bottle. Aroma is nothing special with some acidity and a twinge of a vinous character to it. Carbonation is good, nice and creamy, not sticky, could be a bit thicker though. Flavor has good sweetness with the usual suspects-chocolate and some coffee. Didn’t seemed very roasted or to be containing much bitter malt properties.

Poured from 22 oz. bottle, thanks to Bulletrain76. Nice dark color, sweet taste with hints of chocolate and coffee. Full body with a nice texture and good finish.
