RCL (1001), Boston, Massachusetts, USA Jun 21, 2008 Dark tan persistent head. Nuts and cocoa aroma. Flavor is super dark roasted, almost a charcoal component, but it is good. Very nice overall.
masonjer (431), Lansing, Michigan, USA Aug 28, 2008 Bottle, poured black into the glass with a nice tan head. Smell was chocolate covered malted milk balls. Yum. Taste was well rounded, rich and tasty. Big chocolate, oatmeal, molasses and a great smooth finish. Enough balancing hop to keep it drinkable. Good stuff. Dogbrick (2214), Columbus, Ohio, USA Aug 26, 2008 Bottle at Bob’s Bar. This beer pours an oily black color with a medium thick tan head that diminishes slowly. Patches of lacing on the glass. Nice roasted coffee and malt aroma with a touch of cocoa. Rich and chewy body, with flavors of roasted coffee, malt and chocolate. Light hops and yeast notes at times too. The finish is roasty with a burnt malt aftertaste. Overall this is an enjoyable Double Stout. jcwattsrugger (3862), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Aug 24, 2008 22oz bottle-pours a rich brown head and dark brown color. Pours a nice mocha colored head, some lacing, rich dark brown, nose is of the usual coffee, chocolate, molasses, malt, tastes similar. Great silky mouth feel. Unfortunately the finishing taste is a little unbalanced and rather bitter. Too much boiling hops, or is it the "west coast" style??
