DocLock (4170), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 12, 2008 Bottle from Capone’s. Pours dark black with 2-finger brown head and great lacing. Great look on this one. Nose is roasty toasty dark patent malt, chocoff, molasses, hazelnut, wheaties dipped in brown sugar. Tastes roasty dark malty, with molasses, chocoff, brown sugar, walnut, and a hefty, rich, complex palate that drips with complexity. The repour showed more cacao and jalapeno oily flavors, making this one akin to a mixture of 50% Bell’s Java and 50% St. Arnold Divine #5. Just outstanding! fordest (1778), Santee/San Diego, California, USA Apr 25, 2008 Draft at Liar’s Club. I thought this was absolutely wonderful. Darkest dark pour with decent head. Unbelievable aromas. I was stunned with the chocolate and sweet malty aromas. Flavors were almost as nice. tons of chocolate and roasted malts. Coffee came through just a bit, but disguised as mocha. Wonderful beer. Why can’t I get this here in San Diego in bottles? I guess I have to try harder. chronictonic (362), Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 18, 2008 This was the 2nd best stout of the night after the Hoppin’ Frog. Great aromas of roasted malts, milk chocolate and some vanilla notes. Big, creamy flavors that lean towards a dry stout. Malty and super tasty. Another winner from Green Flash (hey Green Flash - I know a couple great places for a brewery here in Philadelphia!!) Aubrey (2614), Denver, Colorado, USA Aug 29, 2008 Inky black with a sticky tan head that lasts. Texture was full and creamy with a velvety softness. Bold and rich flavors from start to finish (which lingered well into the aftertaste): toffee, sugared espresso, sweet milk, dark chocolate, fresh-roasted coffee beans, and caramel syrup. Grassy hop presence had a bold bitterness to balance things out. Some burntness and robust roastiness added depth. Very tasty ... I loved this stuff. nearbeer (1326), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Aug 18, 2008 650 ml. Opaque with a small creamy ring above with frosting everywhere. Aromas of chocolate, coffee, bread, light caramel. Tastes of all the same plus some lightly peppery-sweet hickory. Chocolate oatmeal cookie and light ash on the finish. Heavy body is soft, dryish and just watery enough to keep from being too sticky.
