tokyogoat (505), San Diego, California, USA Oct 28, 2009 Pours a hazy straw yellow.
Nose is floral and spicy, lots of yeast, dried citrus peel, and pepper.
Taste is nice and dry, very light sweetness in the malt base, nice carbonation, no overpowering flavors, it is not big like some Fantome saisons, but as its name states, its a san diego summer saison, nice delicate floral and citrus flavor, hints of pepper and nice yeast, nothing huge, but an extremely flavorful and drinkable saison. clong83 (243), San Diego, California, USA Sep 26, 2009 A good beer but a weak saison. Somewaht flat, and thin-bodied. nose of some sweet malts, and taste is sweet and citrus-like. Oddly low on carbonation for the style, and a bit plain vanilla. Still, a good beer to be enjoyed on a hot summer day. CharlesDarwin (1823), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA Sep 7, 2009 On tap at Zeno’s Pub - State College, PA. Pours a cloudly clean gold, with a soapy white head, thin. Aroma throws a juicy and plant-like fruit character. A nip of bubblegum. Flavor begins with a apple and pear heavy acetylhyde and yeast stickiness. Tastes not unlike the LaChouffe yeast treated poorly. A long slide into that nice, dry phenolic juicyfruit snap. Not very spicy. A mellow wheat oil lends overall softness to the profile. Nice prickly carbonation brings the flavors forward and into the sinuses. Palate and texture are very nice, soft, but fulfilling and finishing dry. I’m not the biggest fan of the yeast character, but this comes across as a well-brewed beer. FROTHINGSLOSH (1961), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 7, 2009 Sampled on draft at Zeno’s in State College PA this beer poured a cloudy bright yellow-apricot color with a medium sized white head. The aroma was dryish, tart and musty with notes of lemon and orange. The flavor was tangy, sugary and had notes of ripe pear and apricot. There was lightly musty undertone and a touch of spice. The finish was medium length and the body was fairly thick. Sweeter than I am used to in the saison style but I liked it. arrogantb (695), Denver, Colorado, USA Sep 1, 2009 On-tap at the brewery so why the hell not? Golden color , slight spicy smell. The taste was clean with a little spiciness but very refreshing. This would be an awesome summer beer for barbecues and sitting outside. Nice stuff but that is not surprising for Green Flash.

Boy, if you are ever passing through that little college town, a stop here is an absolute must! This saison pours a cloudy yellow and the aroma is fruit and full of Belgian yeast. Flavors of yeast, fruit and a tad bit of funk make this a pretty good attempt at this beer style. It does, however, lack that spiciness that I enjoy. It reminds me more of a Belgian white beer than a saison. Papsoe (14642), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jul 21, 2009 On tap. Hazy yellow with a creamy white head leaving laces. Aroma of spices and yeast. Medium body, sweet fruits and yeast with a subdued bitterness. A fresh easy drinker. 070709 illidurit (851), Santa Cruz, California, USA Jul 9, 2009 On tap at The Red in Santa Cruz. Opaque gold color with a billowing white head. Aroma is wheaty with some banana notes. Also some citrus, but a distinct lack of spiciness. Flavor is mainly banana pith and lemon meringue. Again, not really any spice. Comes off sweet and underattenuated. Good mouthfeel but this is really just a typically uninspired American attempt at a Belgian style.
