monkeychugg55 (222), Joliet, Illinois, USA Nov 19, 2009 Wow, what can I say, other than they somehow stole my imaginary recipe for the best ipa ever. Pours a golden copper with a nice white head. Great lacing. The aroma is simply amazing. Simcoe AND Columbus?!?! There is a little bit of something for every kind of hophead in this. Floral, piney, citrus, grapefruit, and some nice caramel malt. The flavor starts out with caramel malt and cirtusy grapefruit. Then floral, pine, and more citrus, and joyfully bitter. Medium to full bodied with light carbonation. At 95 ibu’s and this hop profile this is just what the hop doctor ordered. My new favorite ipa. TipsyMcStager (916), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Nov 17, 2009 all hops all the time....floral, grapefruit and pine aroma. Pours dark copper with mid range head. Refreshing citurs hoppiness with a blast of pine in the finish. Somewhat chewy malts. RAYBOY01 (1826), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 16, 2009 Very attractive hazed coppery pour. Nose is very intense (and intensely inviting) citrus and pine hops. Flavors are really well balanced between the sweet caramel crystal maltiness and the fruity bitterness of the big citrus and pine hopping. Great IPA from the West Coast...go figure! 0o9i (333), Reno, Nevada, USA Nov 16, 2009 12oz bottle. Smallish, off-white head covers a hazy apricot-honey body that sparkles faintly and laces in generous rings that drip with lacing. A big nose-full of hops, hop flowers, pine, big citrus like orange zest and grapefruit rind, honey backdrop. Respectable palate of medium body with light, foamy carbonation, slightly watery on the back end, astringent finish. A touch sticky on the lips. Flavor is tremendously hoppy and nowhere near balanced. Lightly malty front with sugary sweetness is soon decimated by a blast of pine and grapefruit rind with a long, piny aftertaste. Slight honey and floral notes. Great for a hop-head. Tongue-tingling bitterness. Pretty much exactly what I remember from my first taste on tap in 2006. The difference is that then it upset my stomach, and now I want to clone it. Bitzybrew (34), New York, New York, USA Nov 14, 2009 One of my favorite IPA. Great balance of hop flavor (citrus side) and honey-like malt sweetness that didn’t take away from the hop bite. On tap at Rattle n Hum. madmitch76 (493), , Essex, England Nov 14, 2009 4th June 2008. An orange amber coloured beer. Plenty of hop bitterness but not overpowering. Light malt. aaronh2012 (10), Maryland, USA Nov 13, 2009 One of my favorite beers. Clipper City’s Loose Cannon is my standby but only because it’s about 20% cheaper. I try to keep both on hand.
The only beer I’ve had with a stronger hop aroma is Russian River Pliny the Elder. The Simcoe, Columbus, Centennial, Cascade, and Amarillo hops give a very complex aroma but over time it’s possible to pick each out. The hops are complemented by an excellent maltiness. The first few times I had the beer I was overwhelmed by the hops but lately it seems the maltiness is really shining through. yumyum (122), barrie, Ontario, Canada Nov 9, 2009 A very nice ipa. It has pours a very nice deep amber colour. It has a big nose of hops of course. This ipa has a really nice complexity for the style. You can really taste multiple flavours. It is one of my favourite (allthough I still give the df60 top billing) It’s hoppiness puts df60 to shame but in terms of drinkability the edge goes to df60. Overall a great ipa great floral aroma with mild citrus, citrus and pine in the flavour. Decent mouthfeel, are left with a slight hop bite at the finish
