Sep 11, 2008 Pour is a dark copper with a slim white head. Sticky with grassy, dry hops and some bitter citrus. Pretty awesome stuff.

Sep 8, 2008 Pours an amber color with a rather large creamy off-white head that takes a while to fade, and leaves a lot of sticky lacing. Arome is nutty and piney hops, with some grapefruit. Taste is nutty, with piney hops, and grapefruit/orange. A solid IPA.

Sep 8, 2008 pours a celar yellow copper with full white head, definit hop presence on aroma. intitial bitter bite at the front and a definite west coast hop appeal in this. The front to middle bitterness was a bit much, but definitly good stuff.

This is a great version of it and gets extra points for being rather affordable (for japan standards)...probably the best straight west coast IPA I’ve had. Great on tap too. Sep 7, 2008 This was a tasty IPA. Big hop aroma and flavor but not overwhelming the sweetness of the malt. Still a west coast IPA so hops are center stage. Amber with nice fluffy head. On tap at the Dafting Room

Aug 31, 2008 On draught at Yard House in San Diego. This beer is a clear amber color with a medium white head that recedes steadily. Sticky rings of lacing on the glass. Lots of citrus and pine in the nose that augment the hops. Medium-bodied and moderately bitter hops with floral and piney notes. Some oak and malt in the background too. The finish is hoppy and lingering, leaving a citrusy aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Aug 31, 2008 Pours a lovely golden orange with a small but lasting head and wonderful goopy lacing. Aroma is very sweet and inviting - yum! Tastes splendid - lots of oily hops and present alcohol, light citrus character, slightly woodsy. Good carbonation, creamy thick body - delicious! Great lingering hop aftertaste. What a treat this IPA is!

Aug 30, 2008 Updated: Mar 10, 2009I’m re-rating this on 3/10/09 - original review is below. Why the perfect rating? For me, it’s the perfect IPA. It’s the perfect balance of hop bitterness, hop flavors, malt body, aromas, carbonation etc. If I’m not trying new beers, there’s not a single beer that I can think of that I’d rather have than this one. It’s the only perfect RB score I’ve ever given and probably will ever give.

I can’t believe I haven’t rated this one. Since Spring ’08 when we could get this in Philly, this has been my "must keep around the house" IPA. Big hop aromas, good malt body w/o the biscuity toastiness so many IPAs have these days. Good crisp hop bite and more importantly, the flavor of the hops is really nicely done - citrusy grapefruit and resiny pine in a nice mix.
All summer we’ve been able to get this with blue labels. The other night, someone brought over a green labeled version. Not sure if that’s s different beer or not (it sure tasted different, but that was after quite a few other beers).
