TheGrandMaster (1432), Auckland, New Zealand Jul 17, 2008 Bottle, pours a red-tinted brown with a think foamed off-white head. An unusual malt aroma, some molasses, but also piney, and a touch medicinal. A smooth malt palate, the bitterness is quite moderate and there isn’t a very strong hop presense. The malt is quite woody, with a sweetness that is again more medicinal than caramal. One of the better Green Man beers I’ve had, but nothing to get excited about. Papsoe (9980), Frederiksberg, Denmark Feb 7, 2008 (Bottle 50 cl) Slightly hazy, dark amber golden with an off-white head. Aroma is standard Bitter fare with some caramel and some nuts. Medium body with light caramel and nut accents. The finish is dry without any greater hop presence. 270108 bozoNZ (360), Christchurch, New Zealand Dec 25, 2007 Tasted 09/06. Brief notes - reasonable taste & flavors but a bit watery - no head. very clear with a straw/barnyard aroma. austinpowers (2827), New York, New York, USA Dec 19, 2007 A fantastic English bitter from NZ (bought in Hokitika). Sweet, aromatic with delicious delicacy and flavor. A real find. Very low hoppage. NZHomebrewer (1), New Zealand does not count Mar 1, 2007 Got Bottle from Hallertau Brewpub in Riverhead. Bottle cooled to 10C. Head disappeard qucikly. First try: Thin almost watery. No malt, slightly bitter, low hop. After a while the ale warmed a bit and released a bit more maltiness and some caramel. Still not enough bitterness for my taste for a bitter. Quite a disappointment. I was hoping for more, especially with the Hallertau Hoppy beers still in mind.
