Pours a dark mahogany with a short-lived, vanilla cap. Woody, peaty, aromas with notes of chocolate and raisin pie. Rich dark malts with balanced elements of whiskey, oak wood, and stewed fruits. Finish is dry with some mild reedy bitterness. Another entry in the pantheon of whiskey barrel beers, and this one succeeds nicely owing to the quality malts and just the right amount of boozy bliss. Spot on!

Pours a very dark ruby red, only a slight hue held up to the light. Little carbonation and virtually no head. The oak is on the nose. bit of vanilla and almost a bit of smoke. Slight roasted flavours in the taste, with whisky shining through more towards the end. maybe a bit too much of the oakiness, but its pretty well blended.

Very dark red hue, almost no head at all. Dark berry fruit and apple nose, some roasted malt. Hints of yeast, coffee and licorice. Strong aromas of bourbon whiskey. The whiskey is also strong in the flavours. Supporting flavours of prune, boysenberry, some yeast and roasted malt. The whiskey is even in the sweet, alcoholic finish. I’m actually quite a fan of this beer. Different, and very drinkable.

(Bottle 50 cl) Clear orangey brown with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malt and a little nuts. Medium body, lightly sweet roasted malt and some burned caramel. Has a whiff of metal. Dry and fairly hoppy finish. 270408

Bottle with - and courtesy of - yalnikim, poured brown with a filmy head. The nose is piney and slightly medicinal. A sugary palate, with some coffee, but the whiskey comes through quite strong.

Rated September 8, 2008: Tasting at Beervana 2008. Poured dark red/orange, diminishing white head. Aromas slightly sweet, slight chocolate. Flavours initially quite sweet with a honey/whiskey flavour. Sweetness is balanced with bitter roasted malt/chocolate. Well balanced tasty complex beer. Overall 3.5. Re-Rated January 15, 2009: 500mL bottle from the Brewery. Pours a deep ruby. Tan head which almost refuses to form, and quickly dissipates. Sweet aroma, caramel, Marmite. Quite malty and hint of apple, raisins and hops. Almost reminds me of a barley wine. Initial flavour is quite like Marmite, but fades to a well rounded roasted malt profile with a good amount of whiskey in there. Sweet overall flavour, with a little bit of roast malt bitterness. Finish is medium length and slightly bitter. Quite nice, almost a session beer.

Bottled. A brown beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma is sweet mlaty with notes of caramel and light notes of brown sugar, spices, and bisquits. The flavor is sweet with primary notes of bisquits as well as light notes of brown sugar and alcohol. Thanks Papsoe for shipping this home to Denmark.
