Has everything you expect from a Dunkelweizen, with the banana and spice, along with just a faint hint of chocolate. But there was also a strong ashen-like quality that set off the palate perfectly for me. Well done. DuffMan (2771), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 13, 2009 Bottle, purchased at the Thirsty Bloke in Christchurch. The cap is an ad for the upcoming Brew NZ festival in August, so I wonder if this was brewed specifically for the event. Anyway, it pours a clear copper brown with a medium brown head that settles quickly. Aroma is predominantly estery banana at the start, but given time there is some dusty chocolate notes that can be teased out. The palate is quite light with brisk carbonation. The flavour again is dominated by estery banana fruitiness, subtle spiciness, and interestingly, some subtle burnt malt as well. I don’t actually get any chocolate, just char, and I really have to look for it through all those esters and banana. Finish is dry. donfardz64 (427), Wellington, New Zealand

Whoa, massive banana aroma here. There is a hint of caramel and chocolate there too, which makes it smell almost exactly like a banana split. Very nice.
Banana esters dominate the flavour, there is only an inkling of milk chocolate here so it tastes more like a weissbier. Perhaps a bit of tannin. The finish is quite dry, like after eating a banana...
A wonderful aroma here, yet the flavour is simply average. Still, a very unique beer, and overall highly enjoyable.
