| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 21, 2005 Nitro-Pours with a nice full head with a soft fruity aroma. Kind of an amber/copper color. No carbonation and the finish isn’t very bitter for an English ale. Something I would love fresh and on cask. Good solid ale. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 4, 2005 Glug, glug, glug goes the can, the brew settles smoothly and show a copper/amber hue, under a creamy off-white, well-maintained head.
Aroma, soft, sweet, and lightly spicy...fresh, green hops...rather nice!
Taste: neat, tidy, hop-laden jump on the palate...then smooth and mellow. good malt in the body. Classic English pale ale, apparently "brewed longer for a distictive, full flavor." I wouldn’t call it "full", but it’s fuller than many, maybe even most. "Full-flavoured, smooth, & mature" it says in a ring around the top of the can. They left out "sophisticated".
There is something in the taste I’m not crazy about, maybe it’s that fresh, green hop character mentioned above mixing with caramel malts?
Drinks down ultra-easy, nonetheless...a very nice ale, no question.
**reading other reviews, I’ve got it! Caramel Apple!

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 25, 2005 Bottle. Pours dark red, and tastes like it looks, with malts and caramel. A little one-sided, though, lacking balance. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 20, 2005 Widget can. Has a kind of astringent bitterness in the aroma that is definitely not from hops. Never really smelled anything like it before so hard to describe it. Looks like a lighter Boddington’s when poured. Creamy agitation settles to reveal a reddish tan body. Somewhat like Bass in color. Creamy texture, but has many flavors I associate with macro adjunct pale lagers. Love the body, but the nearly flavorless (till that grainy cereal finish) profile isn’t very satisfying. Getting better as it warms though...some sweetness comes out and maybe a sliver of hop finish. Very temperature sensitive it seems. Warms into a much better beer. iam (369), Mississauga, Ontario, Canada

Aromas of roasted caramel malt. Medium body. caramel malt taste with a light hop bitterness to finish. Not at all bad. ashbeero (51), Perth, Australia
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 7, 2005 Dark brown beer with a faint red tinting. Average light brown head which rapidly re-generates by swirling. Excellent roasted toffee and caramalt malt flavours and on the nose. Some residual sweetness and light-medium bitterness. Dry, hoppy finish. Improves as it warms up to about 10ºC in a nice stein. Great winter beer. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 6, 2005 Can. Deep copper pour with aroma of bready caramel malt, toffee. Fruity in the taste, with some caramel maltiness and floral hops in the finish. Pretty good balance.
