[Cask at the Monks Retreat (JDW), Reading.] Gold with a dense white head that leaves good lacing; smooth and creamy, slightly sour and dry, then some sweet malts and a light dry spicy finish. Restrained and rather elegant.

From cask at Crystal Palace. Pours clear and golden orange with a dense and slight off-white head. Aroma is mild fruity to a clean and crisp malt note. Flavour is light spiced to the malty flavours. Light bitter and somewhat floral fruity into the finish. Decent to good.

Cask conditioned - handpump - Lloyds No 1 Northampton A copper coloured beer with a tight whitish head. The aroma is vague with some slight crunchy malts. The taste has some Burtonic sulfer snatch. A bit of apple and late lemon. Very ordinary

Cask at ’Spoons, Milton Keynes, in Wetherspoons Festival ’08. Amber with a small white head. Odd aroma, vegetal, sweet and spicy. The same sort of thing in the taste. At the end a little sourness leads into a mid bitter finish. To be perfectly honest I quite liked it.

A Mes rate: cask at a JDW somewhere.
Clean golden brown with a thin white head. Slightly sweet malty nose with some faint estery notes. Dusty malt flavour with a fruity bite on the finish and a very faint lick of bitterness. Typically bland and unimaginative offering from GK.

Cask @ Great British Beer Festival, GBBF 2008, Earls Court, London, England SW5.
Clear medium yellow orange color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, toffee, light to moderate hoppy, flowers. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average duration. Flavor has a very nice hooy taste. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (050808)

GBBF, Trade Day, 2008 Cask. Very hoppy - dry dusty English hops. Best bitter but with an autumnal edge - crystal malt. Malt is a little greasy, but an OK beer. For some reason I can’t remember I got quite excited about this and urged others to try it - but everyone just sipped it and shrugged, saying it was just an ordinary British bitter.

on tap - clear light brown beer with a thick long lasting white head. Little bit of lemon aroma. Flavour is sweet and lemon like. Some bitterness in the end.
