Beer number 1 in the great Ayr/ Glasgow pub crawl. Cask at the Old Racecourse hotel, Ayr. Really quite bland. Aroma slightly sulphurous, caramelly, hint of hop resin. Pretty bland, finish okay. Just not very exciting.

Hearty, not hoppy. Best way to describe it. Somewhat exceptionally bitter. I suppose goes well with beef, but I’d rather something more rounded. A decent beer all the same. At the Hobgoblin, High St., Canterbury, England.

Down at the local soccer club. Probably not brilliantly kept. Looked pretty nice, but weak in all other respects: flavour, aroma, strength, bitterness... just nothing there... oh yeah, and the team lost.

Cask@The Cricketers, Richmond, London. Quite a flat dull mouthfeel, almost watery texture. Grainy/malty, sweetish toffee-ish flavours, some hop tang . Really damp and boring. Oh, yeah, this isn’t an IPA

[Cask conditioned] Amber coloured. Weak aroma. Sweet flavour. No hoppiness to speak of. Thin and watery. Very boring. Worthy a silver medal in the Champion Beer of Britain Award? I don’t think so!

29th April 2002 - Quality cask conditioned bitter with delicate malt and some hops. Not brilliant, but in decent condition is good quality.

Cask Conditioned at The Church House, Banbury (and a hundred other pubs). Amber beer with bubbly head. Preety standard session bitter that suffers more than most through poor cellarmanship. I always get a tea like hop flavour with a sort of fag ash aroma. I always choose something else if there is choice.
