I wasn’t expecting a ruination, but at least something with the flavor and aroma of hops would be nice, instead of just being used as a preservative. bland and boring. | 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 1/5 | 6/10 | 1/5 | 10/20 | Feb 27, 2005 Expected a lot more from a beer that rapidly grew to fame after Greene King lied about it’s apparent awards at the GBBF. Tasted from the bottle and can, and disappointed either way, it poured a beautiful auburn copper body, with little to no head. It looked like a pint of ’cola beer’ soda. Tangy, fruity hop and mildly sweet malty aroma. In the mouth, a sharp hop bite and watery mouth feel preceded burnt toffee, candy sugar sweetness, floral hop mid-palate and a short-lived, bitter swallow. If it wasn’t watery thin and subtle in flavour, it may be a decent beer. But, alas another bog standard macro bitter, when it comes to bottling. Sales, I guess!!! steview (902), Los Angeles, California, USA

Slightly skunky aroma, reminded me of American lagers actually. Very light hints of crystal malts, not much in the hop department. Thin body doesnt help much. Very disappointing for something labeled an IPA in such an eye catching bottle. blank (998), Washington, Washington DC, USA

| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 1/5 | 11/20 | Feb 6, 2005 Disappointing lightweight English IPA from a brewer that can do a lot better. It poured a plummy brown colour with a thin head. The nose is rich and inviting, with hints of treacle toffee and dark rum. The skinny palate is where it falls down. It’s far too thin for an IPA. The abv is also too low for the style. It has some light hoppiness and a dry finish. An easy quaffer but unsatisfying. (Can) BennyTicklez (621), USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Feb 2, 2005 From can. Pours brown with a creamy off-white head. Odd vinous aroma. Taste is creamy, paint thiner and dull hops. Slight alcohol twinge witch is wierd being only 3.8%. This stuff would be best on the cask I assume. yalnikim (782), Wellington, New Zealand
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 24, 2005 Tasted 24/01/2005. 660ml bottle from New World, Lower Hutt (great beer selection here!). Pours a coppery brown with thin white pillow of head. Nice english hop aroma (guessing Goldings), slightly spicy and earthy but mostly grassy. Strong bitterness is well balanced by smooth malty flavour and pleasant low-carbonated mouthfeel. Palate is slightly oil, probably from the generous hopping. Very low strength an IPA, more like a hoppy bitter.
