Aroma of malt (toffee) with a bit of grassy hops. Medium smooth body. Pretty bland taste, just a bit of clean malt and some noble hop flavour. Nothing else really there. Be great as a session beer but its not an IPA. fiulijn (7420), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | May 6, 2004 Clean amber color. No hop aroma: grass, caramel, sugar. Too light and poor mouthfeel, just some malt and the necessary bitterness. Easy drink; not at all an IPA! Garrat (1132), Suffolk, England

I'd switch to John Smith's Yorkshire Bitter (in cans). I lived up the street from Bury St. Edmunds, and no one I knew drank this local beer. BATLMULLET (127), Highland, Indiana, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Mar 31, 2004 Cask, The Eagle, Cambridge, UK. Somewhat disappointingly thin. Good golden color, slight head. Crisp yes, but not crisp enough, nor big enough. I guess my expectations for an IPA are based on the American palate that needs a huge amount of hops in great IPA. Not unenjoyable though. Sigmund (2299), Hafrsfjord, Norway

Tawny colour, moderate head, moderate "standard bitter" aroma. Flavourwise it’s much like the cask version: Smooth and drinkable, not offensive in any way, but not very exciting either. Wasn't really impressed, tasted a lot like my home brew ales, very basic, not very bitter, doesnt have half the flavour as Squires. Maybe it was an old can. I like my ales stronger in aroma, flavour and alc. Dalle (1146), Skørping, Denmark
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Feb 11, 2004 Amber colour with small head. Little sun stricken aroma, malt predominates in the taste - only slightly hoppy-citrusy.
