Commercial Description:
Cask; Regular.
St Edmunds is a new golden beer and the first of its kind in the UK. A revolutionary take on a traditional dispense, the unique beer engine allows drinkers to choose how their cask pint of St Edmunds is served. Reflecting regional tastes, drinkers can opt for a ‘northern head’ – tight and creamy or a ‘southern head’ – a crowning glory of loose bubbles.
Recently voted Beer of the Month by renowned beer writer Roger Protz, St Edmunds is crisp and fresh with zesty, citrus notes. Offering drinkers a choice of styles, St Edmunds still provides the great flavour of a quality cask beer. Specially brewed to be served between 6-8 degrees - cooler than traditional cask beers – it delivers the refreshment of colder drinks while retaining all the depth of character, taste and aroma of real ale.

Bottle @ Beer Exposed, September 2008.
Pours a nice golden with a small, bubbly, off-white head. Aroma is softly fruity with some oranges and malts. Low carbonation, a bit thin and watery. Flavour is soft, malty and with far too little hops. Pretty boring.

A Mes rate: cask handpump at GBBF.
Gold with a thin white head. Ginger and malt with some faint floral hops. Tropical fruit finish. Tolerable for a GK but that’s as good as it’s getting.

Handpulled cask at the Speckled Hen St.Albans. The first time I’ve come across GK’s revolutionary new handpull system (http://www.greeneking.co.uk/stedmunds/stedmun with tall lager style chrome font complete with condensation alongside chrome handpull. Barmaid asked me if I wanted northern or southern head. I opted for the former and got a totally flat pint with no head at all! Beer was no cooler than other cask beers on offer. It is apparently brewed to tast best at very cool temperature. Beer was not off (no nasty aroma) but was a bit tired with slight apple notes developing. It was exeptionally bland with hardly any taste at all. Dire. I would like to rerate a fresher pint with the sparkler system working, but don’t expect too much
