Clear deep red look with a very small brown head that doesnt last for long. Vinouse and very oaky/eartheren aroma along with raisin. The body and flavor is remarkable powerfull considering the abv, again the vinouse and oaky notes stand out along with bitter nuts. Amazing beer. Ibrew2or3 (2766), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA

It pours brown with nice tan head. It has a pretty big aroma of dates minced in caramel. It seems pretty complex with some notes tough to discern. I get toffee, sweet dark grapes and fudge mixed with dark clay like mud. The taste seems thin to start things off. I get dates and grape jelly to go along with an earthiness and mild malt to caramel sweetness way in the back. I get just a hint of hop bitterness in the finish. Really dark fruity tasting beer.
Pours clear amber with tan head. The aroma is a perfumy combination of caramel candy, wood, malty sweetness and dark fruity esters. The taste begins smooth and malty then builds toward sweet dark fruity grape, cherry and plum ester notes. As the finish approaches wood and caramel notes surface and carry on into the after taste. ulfarlinnet (7), 220 Hafnarfjörður, Iceland does not count | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 1, 2008 Had a wonderful complex aroma, malt, fruits and molded cheese (for me it is an exception to mention cheese when describing beer). The taste was clean and tart – really drinkable and very enjoyable. sm89walt (455), Canterbury, Kent, England

I shouldn’t have waited so long! This pours a beautiful dark reddy-brown with a full and fluffy light tan head. Exceptionally sweet caramel aromas with fruit a-plenty. The flavours are almost identical representations of the aromas, which isn’t a bad thing. Honey and cakey flavours, not much fruit evident however. Slight spicy malt notes too and an oaky undertone. The alcohol is evident in the finish, warming the throat with a slight bitterness on the back of the tongue and a thick palate texture. Highly enjoyable. lithy (1750), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Mar 30, 2008 Dark brown pour with a reddish tint through the light. The mouthfeel is pretty heavy for a brown ale and a little creamy. The nose is all old brown woodiness. Oak taste and smooth brown malts. The taste hints at the high % abv before the ales were mixed. A nice old ale but old browns have never been a personal favorite. FatPhil (3481), Espoo, Finland

Really dark brown, brief head. Initially a light winey aroma, but letting it sit in the glass permits a dense oily sweet and dark fruity - prune in particular - aroma to build up. There’s some coffee in that too. Soft carbonation, pleasant in the mouth. Surprisingly refresing taste for something I’d expect to be sticky and sweet. Fruity, both dark fruits and some apple juice, and woody. A little bit of butter too. Slowly bitter hops make their way forward until they dominate. Finish is resiny bitter hops heading in the direction of walnut papers. Good, verging on very good, but needs something more in the body. gam (1112), brisbane, Australia
