Caramel is the key word here, in color as well as flavor, slightly toasty, smoky? Not much head or lace, not particularly dense, but wonderful to drink in all respects. Maria (6265), Thisted, Denmark
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 12, 2007 The head is nice on this mahogany colored beer. The aroma has notes of dark fruits and roasted malt. The flavour is round and full with vinous notes and notes of ripe fruits, roasted malt, caramel and sweetness. The finish has a nice bitterness. it was a vintage 2000, and I had it towards the end of 2004. BeerBiker (1392), Kathmandu, Nepal

Great beer with many nice notes where the hops are dissapeared caused by the long cellaring. Enjoyable brew for 1-2 hours, but also easydrinkable. Bitter, oak, fruit and lots of ingredients. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 9, 2007 bottle. Clear brown and ruby colour, medium-size head. Aroma of roasted malt, fruity and wine. Vineous flavours with roasted malt and caramel, well-rounded by a resiny hoppyness. Very complex and full of different flavours. Fantastic brew. BrianHagmeier (257), Coralville, Iowa, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 8, 2007 Pours a nice (fake) caramel color. Chuckle chuckle. It says that on the bottle. Any way, nice head with a sweet malt aroma and a flavor to match it. I liked it. FastEddie (182), Louisville, Kentucky, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 1, 2007 Creamy, average-sized dark brown head which diminishes fast. Sweet, fruity malt aroma. Flavor is suprisingly not very sweet. Dominated by hops, but not overpowering. Complex. Hammster (187), Eagan, Minnesota, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 23, 2007 500 ml bottle. Cranberry/amber brown with a small off white head. Aroma was pretty complex--smelled like a sherry--dry with lots of fruit notes. Tastes a little like a dessert wine too--the oak is evident and so is the cherry and other dark fruit. Finish is smooth and has notes of fruit and cork. Remarkably unique beer--I’m surprised that Old Ales aren’t more popular. wetherel (1627), Encinitas, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 18, 2007 $4.69 (overpriced) Bought 8/30/07, probably from HWC. Kind of happy to get this out of my cellar. I don’t know why I’m not eager to try it. Small head that settles to a 1mm creamy light tan layer. Malty aroma. Oak is difficult to detect. I suspect the blend only contains a small amount of 12% alcohol beer. Flavor is a little watery. A little bit of tang.
