Commercial Description:
Bottle: Pasteurised.
Marketed in the United States as Olde Suffolk.
A blend of two ales: Old 5X , which is brewed to the maximum strength possible (around 12% abv) and left to mature in 100-barrel oak vats for a minimum of two years, and BPA, a dark, full-bodied freshly brewed beer which is added just before bottling. The result is a unique beer - strong (6% abv), dark, fruity, oaky and very, very special.

Thin brown head. Red-brown body. Vinuous plummy caramel aroma with wooden alcoholic notes. Dry-swetish-acidic caramelly papery wooden taste. Tart. Thin body. Sharp mouthfeel. Dry-acidic cherry wooden aftertaste. Nice, if perhaps a bit too old (2000 vintage). (0.5l bottle bought so long ago I no longer know where.)

Greene King Brewery B S E Dark brown w/ lovely beige head. Winey, oaky aroma. Medium body, silky smooth, and no stickiness. Nice malty character, slightly sour w/ winey, oaky, ironish notes. Dry, peppery, moderately bitter finish. A lovely brew

Bottled. Amber with white head. Aroma of malt and red berries. Flavor is dry of roasted malt and vineous notes. Though with sweet malt.

Bottle. Pours a clear deep brown, with a thick head that fades. Strong malt aroma, with a mix of caramel and raisins. Interesting, you can almost pick out the two beers. It has the heavy, slightly sour flavor of the aged ale. But, there is a crisp, almost lager like freshness to the beer. Very unique and pleasant. Intriguing flavor and refreshing.

The nice forming and consistent beige foam, along with the copperish body had me going, but I encountered more caramel than I wanted, and less fruit flavors than expected for me. The alcoholic touch was nice, but hops and malts didn’t made more than average in this one. The tiny sour feel came very nice, though. Nice beer.

[500 ml bottle] Dark, amber clear color. Light beige head. Aroma of sweet malts, caramell and some roasted tones. Taste of burnt sugar, hops, and dried fruit.

Clear bottle. Pour is a Chestnut color, Fizzy light tan head, no lacing. Caramel malt, sweetness, fruit, figs, toffee, and some roasted and grassy flavors. Light-medium body. Decent beer, but not really my thing.
