Not sure the year, but the bottle said best before Nov 07. Dark ruby brown, medium foamy head. Wow, aroma - so woody, malt, grain. Like a contemplative old style porter. Nutty. Amazing. Nutty, caramel, burnt sweet taste - lovely stuff. Medium body. Very easy to drink, alcohol never a factor. Not overly complex in taste (now the aroma is a different story), but man, the flavour is good and this beer is an amazing example of an English Strong / Old Ale. Waited 3 years to try it, thanks again Harry. thomat (666), Göteborg, Sweden

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 3, 2006 16.9oz bottle. Pour is deep ruby with off-white hue that lingers. Nose is oaky, fruity, similar to a light red wine. Flavor is more oak, some sweet malts, and hints of flemish sour characteristics. I guess this is the oak. Finish is dark fruits. Not incedibly strong for the style, but has an enormous amount of character. Would like to taste the Old 5x and BPA separately someday. Solid Brew. SHIG (2037), Aviano, Italy
