A tempting, caramel-like smell, reddish colour. Fantastic taste - like fruit-flavoured, caramel/toffee but not sweet at the same time; intriguing. The slightly sour end doesn’t change the impression - very good, definitely recommended. AndrewM (126), Waco (Buckle of the Bible Belt), Texas, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 8, 2005 Poured from a 1 pint bottle. Deep brown, with no head. Few bubbles evident. Aroma of malt, oak, burbon. Taste is mild, making it easily drinkable... No bubbles on the tongue at all, nearly flat. Hints of dark caramel in the taste. The flavor itself tastes good. Maybe it’s the style, but the carbonation is so low that it seems flat to me. No bubbles in the mouth at all. A little more carbonation would have improved my perception of this brew. Unfortunately, it fell ’flat’ for me. haukur (684), Reykjavik, Iceland
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 31, 2005 interesting brew but it somehow fails to stand out, fruity notes in the malty aroma. Toffee and caramel, carbonation and malt. Fails to stand out ....... BillyM (149), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 29, 2005 Intersting and complex taste. Semi-strong and fruity start which softens as it goes down. Has some smoky raisin taste with a bit of caramel and oak. Low carbonation. You can taste the two different brews - almost to a distinguishable difference within the sip. I like it, but I think I would rather try the older aged brew by itslef. scotty (835), Scotland
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 25, 2005 Morrisons Wetherby. A big complex beer, sweet caramel/toffee but with an underlying spiciness, smooth and full flavoured. Lingering malty finish, spice appearing again. Great beer, surprisingly refreshing, with a light finish, not at all cloying. dwyerpg (2545), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 3/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Jul 18, 2005 Smells like barleywine; headless. This si reall nice - it taste powerful, mostly like barleywine ales, but hints of doppelbocks as well. HIghly recommend it. jmuhops (663), Winchester, Virginia, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 17, 2005 Pours black with a little ruby where the glass is thin. Small off-white head that quickly disappears. Aromas of oak, vanilla, biscuity malts, and a hint of diacetyl. A little smokiness, as well. Flavor dominated by the oak and vanilla. Some slight toffee and licorice flavors. The oak imparts whiskey-like notes, which could also be likened to very sweet, flat root beer. Finally, an oak-aged beer that showcases the oak, in appearance, aroma, and flavor. Excellent beer. Liberty (52), Stompwijk, Netherlands
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 15, 2005 Mine was a bottle, and the recent 2004 brew. It was much sweeter than I did expect, but very nice. I could clearly taste that this beer was aged (some port), furthermore nice malt (roasted), alcohol and nice fruits. A really nice brew!
