Commercial Description:
Bottle; Pasteurised.
A blend of two ales: Old 5X , which is brewed to the maximum strength possible (around 12% abv) and left to mature in 100-barrel oak vats for a minimum of two years, and BPA, a dark, full-bodied freshly brewed beer which is added just before bottling. The result is a unique beer - strong (6% abv), dark, fruity, oaky and very, very special. In the United States, this is known as Olde Suffolk.

Pulled an old review out of the works... Served at cellar temperature in Duvel glass. Rich nose of sweet toffee, oak, bread, biscuit, a bit of alcohol too. Pours a cola body with ruby highlights, brown head diminished quickly. Body is quite flat and slightly surupy with little bitterness. Flavour is wonderfully full and rich with biscuit and toffee malt notes and hints of wood, dark fruits and spice. Finish is drying and possibly even a bit tannic. Very good English strong ale, although seems flavour is too short lived.

500ml bottle served in a stem glass. Deep ruby pour topped by a small tan head. Big fruity nose with some toffee and nuts. Smooth sweet flavor, cocoa, banana, toffee, slightly metallic. Finishes with a touch of bitterness and a slight sour twang. Decent.

Bottled. Raisins and plum aroma, a bit metallic though. The taste is even stronger of plum, with some sweet toffee or smoke, even wood. Long finish. Dark brown, thick but quickly disappearing beige head.

Ruby brown, loose chocolatey head. Very strong fruitcake aroma, apples, pear and fig. Some port wine and wet linen lurking about. Syrupy, mildly roasted flavor, rust, fruitiness, little alcohol. Finishes slightly sour with blood and wood. Medium bodied, a bit coarse palate. Very interesting, lot’s of fruitiness, but not all that enjoyable.
