Full-bodied and fruity like a Dubbel should be, but there’s still something odd about it. Maybe it’s because I know it’s free of wheat and barley that its flavour seems somehow artificial, or maybe it really is that way. Of course, I could be more scientific and do a blind tasting, but I’ve had too much to drink to really care that much.

Very dark brown colour with light brown fizzy head. Quite a citric aroma. Flavour has an acidic edge but an overall sweet feel. It doesn’t look like or taste like beer.

500 mL bottle from Whole Foods Market, Charlottesville, VA. Pours a dark ruby tinted brown color with a large brown frothy head. Aroma of grainy malts, brown sugar and a tart note. Really a faint aroma. Taste is tart cherries, cola, grain, caramel, leafy notes. Medium bodied. A decent effort, especially considering this is gluten free, but as far as dubbels go, this sucks.

Pours a dark brown, opaque, with a brown head that collapses quickly. Aroma is initially metallic, then turning to dark fruit, mostly prunes, wheat aroma despite the lack therof. The chocolatey malts are nice, the other flavors are a strange mix of raspberry wine cooler, cheap pink wine, artificial sweetener. Could be worse, but still not good. Pretty nice spritzy yet soft mouthfeel, despite the harsh chemical finish. A really strange brew, a loser overall, but vastly better yet than the tripel (Greens Quest). Overall, fair plus.

Bottled from Systembolaget, Focus, Gothenburg Dark brown. Small, brief, beige head. Loads of sour apples in the aroma. Sour, fruity flavour. Well put Jonte; Pommac it is, indeed!! Artificial and sour with a thin body.

Bottle. Thanks to mybestfriend. Brown colour with a beige head. Aroma: chemical, swimming pool, bad brandy, apples, sourness. Flavor: sour, fruity, a bit roasted, alcohol, swedish soft drink (pomac), sweet but also dry. Strange.

[bottle @ RBESG 2009] Very grainy granny smith apple aroma with some spicy turpentine. Opaque brown-black under an off-white patch and ring. Thin, watery green apple flavour with some low fruity esters and nutty cheese. Medium body, medium carbonation, fruity estery finish.

[RBESG, Sheffield]
Bottle @ Fat Cat, Sheffield.
Pours clear brown with a small, frothy, beige head. Aroma has quite a lot of chemical notes, apple and lightly spicy notes. High carbonation, very thin. Flavour is weirdly spicy, green apples, light sweetness, vinious. Weird and thin.
