GreatLibations (1327), Sasquatcho, Arizona, USA Sep 25, 2007 Johnny Quest pours a dingy almost tawny golden color w/ a rather impressive head that rises to the occaision. Good head retention reducing to a giant island and a thick, soapy spattered ring. Aromas of fruity sweet malts. Medium nectar w/ ample residual effers. I don’t know man but these brews all have a defined astringent bittering component tha just throws everything out of whack. Yes, there is a mildly sweet fruitiness that is evident but not much of the tropical, banana gum spice found in a traditional Tripel. I do get Apricot, peach, nectarine, honey, and a totally detestable green stem and seeds littering. The finish is long but the fruitiness is wiped away by this astringent fellow that nobody loves. Overall: I have to say, I do totally appreciate what Ford is doing here for the Celiac society but the brews are almost undrinkable. I had three of them and I actually liked the Dubel. It acted and tasted like a Dub. This Trip is close but no cigar.
tronraner (1482), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Dec 2, 2008 Bottle. Pours a hazy brass color with soapy white head. The aroma is strangely full of apples, with some faint spice, flower, and zest notes. The flavor is also heavy on the apple. There are some woody notes after that, then some spicy yeast. The mouth is quite tingly. It finishes medium-dry with a stale-ish floral note. Not particularly impressive. Cybercat (470), Georgia, USA Nov 26, 2008 Though I have been disappointed by other Green’s offerings, I decided to give this one a try, and I am glad I did.
Color is a clear orangy-amber, nothing special but not off-putting. Aroma is crisp and fruity, more on a cider than a beer, a little sweet but not cloying. Flavor is perky, fruity and a little sour, with a nice alcohol zing; it tastes like a mixture of cider and sake - different, and not in a bad way. Texture is smooth and pleasing, a teensy bit watery but not too shabby. Shag (1811), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA Oct 21, 2008 This poured a golden color with a large white head. The aroma contains a bit of lemons with some perfume notes. The flavor contains some cooked veggies, sour apples, sugar, and lemons. Overall this beer was odd but not horrid. hopscotch (4679), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Oct 2, 2008 Bottle... Hazy light golden ale with a small, wispy, white head. The aroma is very restrained. Sake, fuzzy fruit and ethanol are the only traces I can pull from the glass. Medium-bodied, lightly creamy and very effervescent. The flavor is a fruity, moderately bitter marriage of Perry and floral hops. Crisp, tangy, fruity finish. DocLock (4175), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 30, 2008 Bottle. Pours hazy gold with 3-finger fizzy white head. Nose is pear, apple, yeast. Tastes fizzy dry and champagny, with mild metallic notes, plus florals, slight berry, and pear. Tastes carbonated, slightly metallic, with slight berry and pear flavors.
